Thai internet users have commented on a chaotic fight that broke out due to a frenzy over buying a restricted-release luxury handbag at a large department store located in the Bang Yai area of Nonthaburi province.

A video of the event was uploaded to the Pu Boripok, also known as Consumers, Facebook page on Friday, accompanied by the caption, “Outside Central Westgate at this moment, the pandemonium caused by teenagers eager for Merge bags.”

The post rapidly attracted attention, with commentators saying things like, “This issue could’ve been prevented if the bags were available for purchase online,” and “How long will we continue to make customers queue up for products? These might just be scalpers.”

According to local media reports, some individuals in the line were reportedly paid several hundred baht to reserve spots for others who genuinely wanted to purchase the bags.

Viewers raised concerns about the department store’s security measures. Despite many grievances directed at the brand, they also pointed out the insufficient steps taken to resolve these problems.

The Thai brand Merge, responsible for the ‘A Day Bag’ priced at 2,490 baht which was showcased in the video, has subsequently declared a halt to the sale of this item.

The company declared in their announcement, “Given the unforeseen violent events at our retail outlet, we’ve made the decision to halt sales of this item indefinitely starting March 22, 2025, prioritizing customer safety. This situation grieves us deeply, and we extend our apologies for any resulting disruption.”

The company additionally encouraged its clientele to stay updated through official channels to prevent the spread of false information.
