Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that both he and his team members do not merit receiving additional bonuses even if they manage to turn around their disappointing season by claiming victory at the Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s team is currently struggling at fifth position in the Premier League and has been eliminated from both the Champions League and League Cup.

For the past four seasons, English champions Manchester City have an opportunity to conclude this campaign without securing a significant trophy for the first time since Pep Guardiola took over as manager in the 2016-17 season.

Their final chance for securing domestic silverware rests with the FA Cup, as they face a quarter-final match against Bournemouth this coming Sunday.

However, despite winning the FA Cup or the Club World Cup in June and July, Guardiola feels that Manchester City has performed poorly enough that they would not be entitled to their share of the significant reward fund allocated for the end-of-season tournament in the US.

FIFA, the sport’s global governing body, confirmed this week that the Club World Cup winners will earn up to $125 million in prize money, with a total pot of $1 billion going to the 32 participating clubs.

“Given our performance this season, we do not merit receiving anything extra. Even if we secure a victory, I am unsure of the amount, yet whatever it may be will benefit the club,” Guardiola stated to journalists on Friday.

The manager, the players, the backroom staff—we don’t deserve them. Not even a wristwatch.
