In a harsh critique, ex-presidential assistant Reno Omokri has lambasted Peter Obi for alleged hypocrisy regarding his response to Dr. Doyin Okupe’s passing.

On X (previously known as Twitter), Omokri claimed that Obi entirely deserted Okupe during his battle with cancer, even though Okupe had consistently supported him in the past.

“When Doyin Okupe had cancer, you deserted him. He confided in me nearly in tears and told me everything you did to him,” Omokri penned.

He went on to assert that even though Peter Obi presented himself publicly in a certain way, he failed to provide Okupe with financial assistance or emotional support when Okupe was facing a serious health issue.

You deceived everyone into believing that you assisted him. The truth is, you weren’t even communicating with him,” he went on. “After he came back from Israel when the conflict in Gaza started, you happened to be on the same flight as him. You passed by him without so much as saying hello. His spouse can confirm this.

Omokri further disclosed that Okupe had to manage on his own, liquidating assets to settle medical costs as friends came together to collect donations.

Dr. Okupe invested all his funds into maintaining his health. He liquidated his possessions to cover his medical expenses. As his friends, we managed to gather millions for him. I reached out to several people who had never previously come forward, and they contributed significantly to Dr. Okupe’s cause. However, you didn’t contribute at all; you provided nothing.

He further asserted possessing documented proof of Okupe’s discontent towards Obi, indicating that the deceased political figure expressed remorse over backing him.

I have documented statements from Dr. Okupe himself, detailing your actions during his most difficult times. In his own words, backing you up was his biggest ‘misjudgment.’

Omokri urged the media to confirm his assertions directly with Okupe’s family and challenged Obi to refute these claims.

If Peter Obi ever refutes this claim, he should be reminded that I do not make statements without proof.
