On Wednesday, Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, instructed the Enogie (Duke) of Iguogie Dukedom, Festus Osagiede Aiyeki, to manage the matters concerning the neighboring Evbolekpen Dukedom within the Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State on his behalf.

Following this, the Enogie of Evboroikpen, Chief Ebabulele Obanosa, along with several others who spearheaded an uprising against the Benin monarchy, faced indefinite suspension.

Aiyeki, currently overseeing Iguegie, Igue-otor, Igue-Edobor, and Evboro villages, will also be responsible for managing the Evbolekpen Dukedom alongside the local elders.

The instruction from the Oba was communicated by Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin, during a meeting with the concerned village leaders at the palace in Benin.

Esere, accompanied by other high-ranking officials from the palace, guided Aiyeki in front of the village elders from Iguogie and Evbolekpen to manage affairs in Evbolekpen as per the directives of the palace authorities.

He stated, “You know that the Enogie of Evbolekpen has been suspended by the Oba. The Iguogie Dukedom is located near you.”

“Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has instructed us to inform you that starting today, the Enogie of Iguogie will be responsible for overseeing Evbolekpen on his behalf,” he stated.

Chief Esere counselled the Enogie of Iguogie to collaborate with the elders from Evbolekpen, headed by their Odionwere, Pa Gabriel Ukhure, and avoid engaging in any illegal actions.

He said that Oba Ewuare was committed to reshaping the Benin Kingdom for the general welfare of its inhabitants.

In response, Aiyeki vowed to fulfill his responsibilities as outlined by the Oba of Benin and assured progress throughout the different villages under his jurisdiction.

Additionally, Pa Ukhure, representing the Elders of Evbolekpen, expressed commitment to supporting the Obaโ€™s decision and conveyed gratitude for his prompt action.
