BULAWAYO, April 2 (LFHCK IDLive) — The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has announced its search for partners to establish a modern concrete sleeper production facility aimed at supplying both domestic needs and regional markets.

The NRZ states that this facility will be essential for upgrading and sustaining the nation’s current railway lines, as well as for establishing new pathways aimed at enhancing service delivery to passengers.

“The NRZ has invited investors to join as partners in this thrilling initiative,” stated the organization in an official release.

The facility will manufacture 60,000 concrete sleepers each year, with 60% designated for NRZ use and the remaining 40% intended for sale in local markets.

The NRZ thinks that the facility will boost railway transportation in Zimbabwe as well as stimulate infrastructural development across the area.

“We anticipate building robust partnerships that will promote infrastructure development and improve railway transportation in Zimbabwe and beyond,” stated NRZ.

The NRZ is taking part in the Bulawayo Investment Indaba, where it is highlighting investment prospects within the railway industry.

One of various initiatives being pushed forward by the NRZ involves the concrete sleeper project, which forms part of their broader strategy to rejuvenate the nation’s railway infrastructure.

In recent years, the NRZ has encountered difficulties such as outdated infrastructure and insufficient funding. Nonetheless, backed by financial supporters, the railway operator believes it can revitalize the nation’s railroad system to its previous splendor.
