KATHMANDU, April 5 — The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is continuing its investigation into the events that occurred on March 28 in Tinkune and other parts of Kathmandu.

Several teams were dispatched by the NHRC to oversee the circumstances, followed by issuing a press statement outlining their initial evaluation derived from the data they collected right away.

The NHRC spokesperson, Tikaram Pokharel, mentioned that the organization has taken notice of various remarks and critiques being shared on social platforms as well as certain news sources regarding both the current state of human rights and the commissionโ€™s involvement in this matter.

He mentioned that the commission has been presented with further grievances and documents detailing harm and purported breaches of human rights that transpired during and following the event. Considering the severity of these matters and the nature of the complaints, the NHRC dispatched investigative groups on the very day the occurrence happened, as Pokharel pointed out.

A group, which included NHRC member Manoj Duwadi, had discussions with Nawaraj Subedi, the convener of the United People’s Movement Committee, who is said to be under house detention. This delegation also toured several healthcare facilities to collect data on individuals detained by law enforcement and evaluate the health status of patients being treated for injuries.

Spokesperson Pokharel appealed to all relevant parties to collaborate with the commissionโ€™s current investigation and fact-finding efforts.
