British people were left amazed this evening as a peculiar rotating white spiral appeared in the heavens, with specialists suggesting it might be connected to a
SpaceX
rocket.

Some shared the breathtaking photos on social media, playfully suggesting they believed it might be ‘
aliens
‘.

However, specialists indicate that the unusual form resulted from lit frozen propellant released from the rocket’s secondary stage.

A light blue spiral appears when surplus fuel discharged from a rocket freezes into ice and subsequently transforms into water vapor.

It subsequently reflects the sunlight in the higher layers of the atmosphere.

Today, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket was launched for the NROL-69 mission, and appears to be responsible.

The firm dedicated to space exploration frequently sends rockets that produce stunning visuals as they expel frozen fuel into the sky.

A surprised British person shared on X earlier today: “I just witnessed an odd spiral of light in the sky as my son and I were stargazing using his telescope.”

Does anyone know what this might be? I heard it could be a SpaceX rocket, but I wasnโ€™t aware theyโ€™re visible in Yorkshire, UK. It was here one moment and vanished the next!

Someone else commented: “It’s strange to spot something like this in the nighttime sky. Could it be a rocket launching with some spin and exhaust emissions, or maybe fueling up? Or perhaps aliens?”

The swirling phenomenon was observed in Yorkshire, Hertfordshire, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Stoke-on-Trent, and Kent.

Professor Brian Cox stated on X: “To those wondering about the unusual spiral pattern observed in the sky earlierโ€”it was linked to this launch.”

He posted a SpaceX video titled: ‘The Falcon 9 first stage has touched down at LZ-1.’

The UK Astronomy group also shared: “Many are querying this! It refers to the second-stage deorbit burn of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.”

It’s not the first instance where this kind of occurrence has been observed.

In 2021, a comparable sighting was associated with a rocket sending a satellite into space.

American astronomer Jonathan McDowell commented on the unusual observation, stating it was fuel that had been discharged.

The spiral occurs when the rocket is spinning end-over-end while expelling its fuel; it behaves precisely like a garden sprinkler,” McDowell explained to SANGGRALOKA at the time.

‘Aside from being in space, the spiral remains flawless across vast distances due to the absence of air disrupting its formโ€”this is why it appears astonishing to us; we typically do not encounter such precise geometric shapes on Earth since wind or friction constantly cause distortion here.’

This occurrence is akin to what was observed over Norway in December 2009.

A blue swirling light lit up the morning sky that was caused by Russia conducting a missile test in the area.

The troubled Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile encountered issues during the third stage when it was launched from a submarine in the White Sea, according to Russian military officials.

When a blue light appeared near Norwayโ€™s Arctic area, locals were puzzled as it ascended, created a massive spiral, and emitted a green-blue beam from its center.

Witnesses recounted it as “similar to a massive fireball circling through the sky, accompanied by brilliant illumination” and “reminiscent of a spinning meteor streaking across.”
