Ademola Lookman has informed Atalanta that he intends to depart the club at the conclusion of this season following the submission of an official transfer request.

As reported by Chroniclelive, the player from London aims to see one of Newcastle, Manchester United, or Juventus take action following their recent scouts’ observations during this campaign. This 27-year-old striker has expressed his desire to make a comeback to the Premier League, having formerly played for teams like Everton, Leicester City, and Fulham.

Atlรฉtico has established a transfer price of ยฃ50 million for Lookman, who Newcastle as well as Manchester United have already engaged in initial discussions about signing.

The choice for African Player of the Year follows a highly visible conflict with manager Gian Piero Gasperini due to a missed penalty. Although reconciliation between them appeared to have occurred, recent reports suggest that the player now desires a fresh start.

The Nigeria international has one year left on his deal with the Serie A side, which includes an option for the club to extend by an extra season, but the public fallout with Gasperini means he is likely to be sold this summer.

The conflict arose when Lookman failed to convert a penalty kick against Club Brugge. Following this incident, Gasperini openly criticized him, labeling him one of the “worst penalty takers” he had ever encountered. Even with the ongoing strain, the forward remains part of Atalantaโ€™s team; however, his exit from the club appears highly likely.

The renowned Spanish club Barcelona has joined the competition to sign Lookman, according to reports from Fichajes, which suggest that the team from Catalonia has started negotiations with his agents. It is reported that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick sees Lookman as a crucial possible acquisition to bolster their offensive capabilities.

Following his impressive performance during the 2023/24 season, Lookman’s popularity has surged significantly. He was honored as the African Player of the Year and secured a victory in the Europa League with Atalanta.

This season, he has bolstered his reputation even more by scoring 13 goals and contributing five assists across 23 matches in Serie A.

The market valuation estimates Lookmanโ€™s value at around โ‚ฌ65 million (ยฃ54.2 million). Several top-flight English teams have expressed significant interest. Additionally, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are said to be keeping an eye on his circumstances, further extending the roster of prospective buyers.

Although Lookman reportedly favors returning to England, Barcelonaโ€™s athletic initiative and the chance to compete in La Liga might be enticing for the multifaceted forward. The Spanish team is presently at the top of the La Liga rankings and aims to strengthen their attacking lineup for the upcoming season.
