The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, presided over a high-level virtual meeting on Wednesday focused on tracking the advancement of an electric power connection initiative between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic.

The meeting took place as part of the efforts to implement the strategic energy cooperation partnership between the two nations, with the theme “Linking the Energy Transformation Between Morocco and France.”

The gathering signified a crucial step in the bilateral cooperation efforts, concentrating specifically on the protocols for sharing information vital to executing this extensive initiative. This venture aims to act as a key driver toward securing energy stability and boosting the interconnection between the two nations’ electrical networks.

The gathering included various officials from both parties such as Gรฉrard Mestrallet, who serves as the Special Envoy for French President Emmanuel Macron, alongside Xavier Piechaczyk, Chairperson of the Executive Board at RTEโ€”the French power transmission system operator. Also present were delegates representing the French Embassy in Rabat, Moroccoโ€™s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), and the Moroccan Solar Energy Agency (MASEN).

The participants highlighted the significance of tight collaboration and continuous communication among the involved organizations. This enhances the basis of their strategic alliance and streamlines the open sharing of technical knowledge and details. Consequently, this speeds up the execution of the initiative.

The meeting occurred within the framework of initiating the strategic energy collaboration agreement between Morocco and France, which was established on October 28, 2024, in the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who God supports, and the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron.

This comprehensive energy alliance seeks to promote collaboration across various sectors including energy policies, planning strategies, regulatory frameworks, renewables, power systemsโ€”encompassing production and grid managementโ€”and also focuses on low-carbon hydrogen development, energy storage solutions, essential mineral resources, along with molecule distribution. This initiative will bolster the standing of both nations as pivotal centers for energy transformation within their regions and globally.
