On Thursday, when speaking with ANI, Leander expressed appreciation for Abhishek’s talent in fashion.

“He is not just showcasing India, not just West Bengal and Calcutta, but his studying, his fashion, and his learnings all go back to Shantiniketan, which makes him a true son of the soil. He’s gone back to the roots, and he’s brought out not just in fabric but also in the karidari,” Paes said.

“When you observe the various craftsmanship evident in this stunning fabric along with all the distinct designs showcased today, the ensembles aren’t merely very comfortable; they truly embody what India represents. It would bring me immense pride to strut down any international red carpet wearing this attire alongside Roy,” he remarked.

Leander also expressed his thoughts on style, saying, “It’s ethnic, it’s Indian, it’s comfy, and it’s athletic. Definitely stylish, it reflects who I am. Personally, I believe fashion isn’t solely about our origins or background; it’s also shaped by our journeys. Having enjoyed a four-decade-long career has truly enriched my experience.”

“Returning to India and honoring such promising talent is wonderful. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see this individual strutting down the runways at New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week before long,” he remarked.

Leander also discussed his preferences when it comes to tennis and various other sports.

In the realm of tennis, I might choose Sharapova or opt forRoger Federer. Serena and Venus Williams were pioneers in designing their own attire and setting trends. If we look back in time, Bonnie Blair was a notable style icon.

“When you step back from tennis and consider other athletes, David Beckham often springs to mind, along with one of my favorites, Michael Jordan. In my view, Michael embodies what an athlete can achieve as a brand, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have counted him as both a friend and a mentor,” he ended his statement.

The Lakme Fashion Week, marking its silver jubilee, will come to an end on Sunday, March 30, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. (ANI)
