After an 11-year hiatus, Julius Berger has resumed infrastructure development in the Abuja Centenary City, following the contract signing ceremony for Phase 1 of the projectโ€™s primary infrastructure development.

The Abuja Centenary City project, first launched in 2014, was envisioned as a bold statement of Nigeriaโ€™s ambition for the new century.

It is designed as a multinational lifestyle hub, with key components, including five-star hotels, luxury residences, an International Commerce Centre, the Centenary International Convention Centre, the Mall of Africa, and a championship golf course.

At the event, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels, the Managing Director of Abuja Centenary City, outlined the reasons behind choosing Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to manage the contract for roads and associated facilities.

โ€œJulius Bergerโ€™s reputation for delivering quality on landmark projects nationwide speaks volumes about its capacity. I challenge the company to surpass its records in project delivery, as todayโ€™s contract signing marks the official resumption of construction in the city after more than a decade,โ€ Michaels stated.

Describing the development as Abujaโ€™s foremost urban renewal initiative, Michaels said the project is designed to attract international investment and establish a global lifestyle hub.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr Peer Lubasch, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to deliver another high-quality project.

Centenary City goes beyond being just an urban project. It represents a commitment to the future of Abuja and the Federal Capital Territory, serving as a driver for employment, commercial prospects, and global investments. It will feature top-tier shopping centers, hospitality venues, entertainment areas, and recreational facilities, such as a premier golf course, all crafted to highlight contemporary quality alongside Nigeria’s rich cultural legacy.

“Julius Berger’s involvement with the ambitious vision of Abuja Centenary City began in 2014, when it was introduced as a strong declaration of Nigeria’s aspirations for the new era. From that point onward, we have maintained a steadfast confidence in its potential. Over the past ten years, we’ve observed and backed its gradual evolution from an innovative concept into an actuality,” Lubasch stated.

At the time of signing the new agreement, Lubasch stated, “The 4.31 km international-standard two-lane highway equipped with multiple services and communication infrastructure is more than just a roadway. It represents the primary thoroughfare of this impressive metropolis, enabling entry to the initial expansion project and establishing the basis for future progress.”

Having accumulated more than 60 years of expertise, Julius Berger has built a reputation for providing durable infrastructure. The firm will apply the same level of accuracy, excellence, and dedication to the Abuja Centenary City initiative, ensuring it aligns with the high-standard vision of the Free Zone.

“Collectively, we will provide future inhabitants and business investors with assurance that their dedication here rests upon a strong and enduring base. When you witness this road being finished, you’ll desire to see numerous additional kilometers of Julius Berger roads within this remarkable city,” Lubasch stated.
