Nepal, April 9 — The Beni-Arthunge-Toripani-Pakha Pani road project, which was allocated the largest budget by Beni Municipality for this financial year, has finished three months earlier than planned.

Financed with an additional grant of Rs 15 million from both the central government and Beni Municipality, this initiative was ranked as top priority to enhance accessibility in Beniโ€™s wards 5, 6, 9, and 10 along with Raghuganga Rural Municipalityโ€™s wards 5, 6, and 8.

Although numerous infrastructure initiatives nationwide have faced postponements because of funding gaps, rising costs of building supplies, and various socioeconomic hurdles, the construction firm successfully completed this stretch of roadway within a mere three-month timeframe.

On January 3, Bikas-Dupcheshwor-Subham JV entered into an agreement valued at Rs 20.9 million with the objective of finishing the construction work by July 9. Nonetheless, led by Deputy Mayor Jyoti Lamichhaneโ€”who concurrently chairs the project oversight boardโ€”a group comprising local officials, engineers, and city employees conducted a site visit on Tuesday and verified that the project would be completed ahead of schedule.

As stated by Lamichhane, ‘The construction firm has erected the necessary support structures according to the agreement aimed at enhancing the roadway.’ He further mentioned, ‘Concrete machinery was utilized for both paving and drainage activities, and subsequent inspections confirmed the use of high-quality resources.’

She mentioned that the local government has awarded a new contract to utilize the leftover Rs 2 million from the initial stage for further projects.

As per municipal engineer Sudip Gautam, the initiative entailed removing landslide debris, expanding the roadway width, constructing retaining walls and drainage systems, and paving with concrete over an expanse of 908 meters between Beni-9 and 10โ€”from Ratopahiro through Githini up to Patlekhetโ€”at the entrance known as Beni-Pakha Pani junction. According to him, the newly laid concrete surface, along with the installation of gabion mesh fills and stone masonry structures, has significantly enhanced both safety and ease for travelers moving through this area.

According to engineer Gautam, Subas Chandra Karki, who represents the construction firm, promptly deployed adequate manpower, machinery, and resources right after signing the agreement to ensure the project stayed on schedule.

Initially launched by the District Development Committee in 2056 BS (1999/2000), approximately six kilometers of roadway, stretching from Beni to Kirakhor through Arthunge, have since been asphalted by the municipal authority.

Furthermore, over the past year, the provincial administration has undertaken improvements to a 4-kilometer stretch extending from Kirakhor through Neptachaur to Galeshwor Secondary School located in Toripani.

Mayor Surat KC mentioned that the local government is enhancing another segment of the Beni-Pakha Pani road, starting from the Neptachaur ward office via Githini up to Patalekhet. He highlighted that they have secured cooperation and support to ensure smooth execution of this crucial initiative.
