This comes after customers complained about getting disoriented due to the present arrangement.

IKEA
is planning to introduce a new store design that will swap its well-known labyrinthine layout for a straightforward linear configuration.

The suggested outlet will extend for almost two kilometers, merging both display areas and storage spaces along a single, lengthy, direct route. This alteration aims to address customers’ issues with becoming disoriented within the present labyrinthine corridors of IKEA.

The upcoming store will have just one level, where visitors can enter from one side and proceed directly towards the exit. To assist shoppers in moving swiftly throughout the establishment, a continuous ride-on, step-off conveyor belt system will be installed, as suggested by customer input aimed at cutting down on walk times. Positioned centrally within the shop will be the dining area, complete with an express conveyor belt designed specifically for patrons who wish to dine without covering the whole retail space.

Even with the layout modification, the store will keep IKEA’s characteristic windowless design.

This choice comes after an event at an unspecified IKEA branch, where a disoriented customer ended up getting locked inside overnight. The individual had mistakenly hidden among a pile of toy snakes out of bewilderment.

The firm mentioned it is looking into various distinctive retail layouts, such as one resembling a colossal meatball.
