Mentras Oro has launched its Ghana Gold Pendant Collection, a program aimed at increasing value within the gold sector, generating employment opportunities, and boosting tourism income.

At an event unveiling the initiative, Sales Manager Peridot Watterson stated that the firm is concentrating on enhancing and crafting gold domestically instead of sending it out in its unprocessed state. He highlighted that this approach keeps greater economic value inside the country and creates job opportunities for craftsmen and administrative personnel. Recruitment is anticipated to increase as consumer interest rises.

“We aren’t just selling; we’re enhancing the worth of Ghana’s gold, generating jobs, boosting tourism, and supporting Ghana’s overall economy. The aim of Mentras Oro is to establish Ghana as an international center for processed gold and make sure each Ghanian has a stake in gold,” Mr. Watterson stated.

He mentioned that the project corresponds with Ghana’s plan to increase value creation within its mining industry and emphasized that the company is willing to collaborate with both domestic and global partners.

Data from the industry shows the possible advantages of these initiatives. As reported by Reuters, Ghana produced 149,300 kilograms of raw gold in 2024. Given that refined gold commanded a price approximately $2,307 higher per kilogramme compared to unprocessed gold in 2022, processing all of the nation’s 2024 production prior to exporting could have added around $345 millionโ€”increasing overall gold export revenues from $11.64 billion to almost $11.98 billion.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ms. Marilyn Maame Efua Houadjeto, praised the effort, calling it a move that goes further than just owning gold towards generating employment and boosting tourism.

“what Mentras Oro is accomplishing extends further than just enabling people to possess a portion of gold. It represents a initiative that enhances value, greatly supports employment, and has a direct effect on the nation’s tourism,” she stated.

Ms. Houadjeto further urged firms within the extraction industry to follow this model by focusing on enhancing value through investment and pledged that the Authority will continue to offer assistance as needed.
