On Wednesday, Accra received an important donation as reported on April 2nd by the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The Ghana Health Service (GHS) provided three vehicles: one was allocated to each of two non-governmental organizations and a governmental body. This initiative aims at enhancing community involvement in preventing HIV and AIDS.

The organizations benefiting from this include the Ghana HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET), Hope for Future Generations (HFFG)โ€”a non-governmental organizationโ€”and the Ghana Prisons Service. Each plays a crucial role in promoting HIV awareness and providing essential support services throughout the nation.

By providing these vehicles, the organizations will be able to enter various communities, raising awareness and educating individuals about the disease. This initiative aims to decrease infection rates and reduce the stigmatization faced by those living with HIV and AIDS.

Professor Samuel Akoriyea Kaba, who serves as the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, mentioned that these vehicles were obtained with assistance from the Global Fund. They aim to boost the organizationโ€™s capacity to access vulnerable groups and elevate service provision at the grassroots level.

“The vehicles arrive with well-defined roles and expectations; we’re providing responsible car usage rather than just handing out cars. They’ll receive a checklist outlining their specific objectives and how these vehicles should be utilized,” he explained.

Professor Kaba stated that antiretroviral drugs will continue to be offered at no cost to individuals affected by HIV, even though global financial support has shifted.

The GHS director reiterated the governmentโ€™s commitment to HIV prevention and treatment despite the rising trends of infectious diseases.

Dr. Ernest Amoabeng Oteng, President of GHANET, expressed gratitude to the GHS on behalf of the three involved organizations.

He guaranteed the service that the vehicles would be used efficiently to attain the intended outcomes in the fight against HIV.
