  • Ongoing worries persist regarding the future of an iconic Formula One driver.

  • This follows the 23-year-old having difficulties at the beginning of the 2025 season.

Helmut Marko has announced that Red Bull will convene an urgent meeting next week.

This follows their lackluster beginning to the 2025 season, with
Max Verstappen
finishing fourth in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, while his teammate
Liam Lawson
dropped to 15th in the rankings.

Ongoing speculation surrounds the New Zealander’s prospects with the team, as Motorsport.com reports suggest he may be replaced.
Yuki Tsunoda
immediately following the Japanese Grand Prix on April 6.

Lawson crashed out on lap 46 due to the treacherous conditions in Melbourne, which affected numerous drivers.

The New Zealand star had secured 18th place in Australia previously and once more found difficulty setting a quick lap time in Shanghai over the weekend, ending up at the bottom during qualification in China.

It seems that the higher-ups at Red Bull are becoming more worried about their teamโ€™s performance. According to Red Bull advisor Marko, who spoke to Sky DE, they plan to hold a discussion later this week.

‘The discussions this week in Milton Keynes will focus on determining the timeline and methods for closing the gap,’ he said to Sky DE.

‘Till then, it’s all about accumulating as many points as you can.’

We are concerned, but itโ€™s not as though we are giving up.

Lawson, who is 23 years old, also shared areas where he feels he needs enhancement.

“Itโ€™s genuinely quite challenging,โ€ he said to Sky Sports F1. โ€œThe timeframe is very narrow โ€“ this much is clear โ€“ but frankly, it shouldnโ€™t be used as an excuse.โ€

When pressed about what he needed to do to improve, he stated: “It’s simply a matter of time. Sadly, I genuinely donโ€™t have enough of it.”

Tsunoda has also addressed the possibility of taking over if the team decides to replace Lawson before the race in Japan.

Absolutely,” he stated. “The Red Bull car is quicker.

Even though questions linger about his prospects, Christian Horner firmly stated that they remain committed to supporting Lawson.

“We recognize that we have to uncover better performance, and both drivers need to step up if thereโ€™s any hope of competing for the Constructors’ Championship,” Horner stated.

‘At the bare minimum, considering also the Driversโ€™ Championship, you must keep a secondary vehicle ready.’

‘Thus, our collective aim as a team is to ensure that we maximize the performance from both drivers and position both cars as high up the grid as possible.’

Formula 1 is a high-pressure environment, right? Thereโ€™s constant time constraints. Lawson understands this, and ideally, he will react appropriately. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop.

Lawson made his debut as a substitute driver at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix for AlphaTauri, stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo.

Later, he was chosen to take over from Ricciardo and then received another promotion prior to the 2025 season, stepping into the seat vacated by ex-Red Bull racer Sergio Perez.
