Carter Starocci, the Penn State wrestling ace, has shed light on his discussion with
Donald Trump
following his historic victory at the NCAA championships.

The president, and
a group of several other close associates from within his inner circle
, participated in the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia on Saturday evening.

Starocci headed directly towards Trump immediately after becoming the inaugural five-time national champion.

On Monday, the Penn State standout shared that Trump presented him with a gift and shared some motivational comments during their meeting inside the venue.

He mentioned to me, ‘Youโ€™re among my top favorite wrestlers globally. I really admire your determination. Your interviews also impress me,’โ€ as reported by Starocci.

So, I let him know that I liked his personality as well. I shared the story with him tooโ€ฆ (and I mentioned), โ€œWhile I was getting ready, they kind of made things tough for me since youโ€™re considered the top guy.โ€ He chuckled at this, and after that, he presented me with a nice token to acknowledge my presence.โ€™




It wasnโ€™t the first time that Starocci โ€“ who was honored as the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championshipโ€™s Outstanding Wrestler โ€“ had encountered the president.

When I found out he was coming, I thought I would head over there and share some thoughts with my buddy,” he went on. “Since weโ€™ve crossed paths before, having him around is always a treat.

Also on Saturday night,
Oklahoma
Heavyweight wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson from State pulled off one of the greatest upsets in NCAA wrestling history prior to honoring the president.

Hendrickson’s key matchup with the heavily favored current Olympic champion Gable Steveson came down to the last 20 seconds of the contest.

The massive Oklahoma State wrestler secured a 3-point move and stopped Steveson from reversing the situation, claiming the NCAA championship. His coaches rushed onto the mat to celebrate with him just as the clock hit zero.

A short while later, Hendrickson, a second lieutenant serving in the United States Air Force, had an American flag placed over him and he stood at attention facing the 47th President. The president responded by clapping and waving back.
