Patrick Maroon, who has won the Stanley Cup three times, will be retiring at the end of this season.

On Saturday, before Chicago’s match against the hosting St. Louis Blues — his birthplace team where he claimed his initial Stanley Cup victory — the Blackhawks winger broke the news.

“Occasionally, you must let go of all that you have learned and every dream you’ve had throughout your life,” Maroon said to Darren Pang at Chicago Sports Network. “I simply realize it’s time for me and my family to embark on starting a fresh chapter together.”

The player who will turn 37 soon played a crucial role in securing the Blues’ inaugural Stanley Cup victory in 2019. After being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he went on to claim additional victories in both 2020 and 2021, thereby joining an elite group as just the fourth individual to achieve consecutive championship wins over three years across two distinct franchises.

“It’s challenging,” stated Maroon, with his family present at Saturday’s match. “Going through such situations is difficult. It’s hard to fully grasp what’s happening, but I believe it’s quite significant for both myself and my family as we begin a new phase.”

Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Maroon has accumulated 320 points (125 goals, 195 assists) along with 1,071 penalty minutes across 839 games spanning 14 seasons with teams including the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Blues, Lightning, Wild, Boston Bruins, and Chicago Blackhawks.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 30 assists across his 163 career playoff matches.
