…..Makande kept his distance from the selection process.

In the historical town of Oyo, yet another significant milestone took place when Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade I was officially named the 46th Alaafin of Oyo during a ceremony held on Saturday.

The most recent occurrence of this event took place 53 years ago, during the ensthrinement of the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III as the 45th Alaafin of Oyo.

Several locals and inhabitants from the historic town, who turned up in considerable numbers, mentioned that this occasion would stay with them for a significant period.

They stated, “Many among us had not been born when the esteemed Oba Adeyemi was crowned Alaafin of Oyo, but we shall share with our offspring all that we have witnessed this day.”

Furthermore, many of us might not be around when another Alaafin takes office, yet we hope fervently that Oba Owoade will reign for a long time over the kingdom of his ancestors.

As evident, all commercial and associated activities have been suspended to underscore the importance of this day’s occasion. Undoubtedly, it holds historic significance.

We urge anyone who is displeased with the choice to put aside their grievances and unite with the new ruler for the betterment of our historic city.

Governor Seyi Makinde aligned himself with the stance of the townโ€™s benevolent young people, challenging anybody who has evidence that he interfered with the choice of Oba Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo to step forward.

He revealed that Oba Owoade was chosen by the Ifa deity, the community members both locally and abroad, as well as the state government.

As he stated, “I would like to inquire whether anyone here possesses evidence demonstrating that I had an impact on choosing Oba Owoade as the Alaafin of Oyo. If someone has such proof, they should step forward. No one has done so.”

Indeed, certain individuals approached me representing a specific candidate; however, this was not the selection favored by Ifa.

The individual chosen by Ifa has been blessed not only by God but also by all the people of Oyo. Today, we are bearing witness to his formal coronation as His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.

Oyo Ile, which we affectionately refer to as this historic town, stands as one of the earliest known settlements in Yoruba history. Upon receiving the results from the initial selection process along with the name of a specific candidate, that individual proceeded to go public announcing himself as the elected Alaafin.

I conducted an inquiry and found evidence of financial incentives. I questioned myself, ‘Can the Alaafin throne be purchased?’ I answered no. I cannot justify this before my Creator.

What brings us together on this day to bear witness to the crowning of King Kabiyesi Oba Abimbola Owoade serves as a reminder that despite any detours we may encounter, we shall always find our path.

Yes, many events transpired since the previous Alaafin departed this world and left the throne unoccupied for some time. However, we are joyous today knowing that these matters have now been settled as our predecessors would have wished.

Today, both the residents of Oyo town and everyone across the state can take pride once more. It brings us joy knowing that we now have a Kabiyesi advocating for the welfare of our community and forebears.

As I’ve mentioned across various platforms, regarding conventional institutions, our government will uphold an impeccable record of staying out of their affairs. We will guarantee that all procedures are properly adhered to. We will remain unbiased. Our role will be to observe from the periphery, making sure that regulations are upheld. Under no circumstances will we favor one side over another.

I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations once more to the residents of Oyo Kingdom. Your endurance and fortitude have ultimately been rewarded.

Additionally, the Kabiyesi and Oyomesi must guarantee that the customs associated with the installation of an Alaafin stay inviolable.

What must be done to safeguard the throne should be carried out, ensuring that the void we encountered in recent times does not occur again.

The individuals who feel wronged and are considering legal action should take heed from the situation in Eruwa. There, the king was ousted by a court after ruling for more than two decades. However, he has since regained his position through the established selection procedures.

Taking legal action regarding this issue would be futile and consume valuable resources. God has ordained it so. Both Ifa, the residents of Oyo, and the authorities concur with the decision made by Oba Owoade.

Additionally, President Bola Tinubu, who was represented at the event by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the importance of the Alaafin to the Yoruba community.

He echoed the sentiment of the esteemed elder statesman, Obafemi Awolowo, to the newly appointed Alaafin: “A nation devoid of an understanding of its historical background, beginnings, and traditions is akin to a tree lacking roots.”

It is with great delight and a profound sense of privilege that I greet you all today as we bear witness to and rejoice in the crowning of a new guardian of the illustrious traditions of the historic Oyo Kingdom, King Owoade.

This significant event isnโ€™t merely a celebration for the esteemed inhabitants of the historical city, but also for the complete Yoruba ethnicity and Nigeria at large. The throne of Alaafin stands as an emblem of cultural dignity, harmony, and the lasting heritage of one of Africaโ€™s mightiest kingdoms.

Today’s landmark occurrence holds great importance due to numerous factors. The Oyo Empire served as the principal political and military center for the Yoruba people, celebrated for its advanced administration, formidable military strength, and extensive cultural impact.

He stated that the Alaafin, serving as the supreme leader, has consistently been the guardian of their customs, the cohesive element for the Yoruba people, and a link connecting the past with the future.

Your Eminence, your rise to this esteemed position occurs during a pivotal moment in our countryโ€™s timeline. Nigeria faces intricate difficulties, and traditional bodies such as the seat of the Alaafin continue to be crucial for maintaining harmony, upholding cultural heritage, and aiding governmental functions.

Additionally, numerous noble houses within the historic city of Oyo commended the smooth procedure that led to Oba Owoade being named the Alaafin of Oyo.

The prominent member of the Agbolua Royal Dynasty, Colonel Ramon Adebayo Agboluaje (retd), welcomed the choice and installation of Oba Owoade as a positive step.

As he stated, “All of us trace our lineage back to Atiba. My roots lie within the Agboluaje Royal family. Therefore, we are all part of one big family.”

In Oyo town, the royal families unite as one. Our affection for each other remains strong; we interact as fellow princes and princesses. The choice of Oba Owoade is greatly appreciated. His rule promises to usher in progress for our community.

The distinguished attendees at the event comprised the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; the Orile-Igbon of Ilegbo, Francis Alao; the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola; the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams; Senator Yinus Akintunde who stood for Oyo Central; the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi.

Among those present were also the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, as well as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, along with several others.
