Residents say they feel “isolated” from a picturesque area in North Wales following the destruction of an access ramp.

The Fairbourne beach in Gwynedd made news due to concerns
It would be left to the mercy of the sea.
When coastal defenses are neglected in the 2050s.

However, it has become unreachable much faster โ€“ a concrete ramp was destroyed during a storm a few years back, and it was deemed โ€œ unsafeโ€ for usage.

Now Councillor Louise Hughes from Cyngor Gwynedd is seeking backing for constructing a new entry point.

Mrs. Hughes is now hopeful that assistance might be provided to allow the Fairbourne community to reclaim access to this cherished location.

“Sadly, after a specific entrance was found to be compromised several years back, it was ultimately declared off-limits for everyone,” she explained.

The region offers breathtaking vistas of both seas and mountains and serves as a perfect spot for water sports such as windsurfing, surfing, and sailing. Additionally, it provides an excellent family-friendly beach suited for activities like building sandcastles.

The shoreline is steeped in history and features anti-tank defenses constructed during World War II, intended to prevent a potential Nazi assault.

The renowned “Dragon’s Teeth” โ€“ these concrete structures were created as barriers to halt tanks and prevent Hitlerโ€™s troops from advancing further.

Ms. Hughes stated, “Throughout the years, efforts have been made to level the pebble bank to improve accessibility, but none of these endeavors has succeeded.”

There was an elderly woman in her 90s whom I knew personally; she had frequented that beach throughout her entire life. In her later years, however, she became deeply distressed as she could no longer reach the area because of accessibility issues.

“Itโ€™s truly regrettable for the local residents to possess such an incredible golden opportunity at their doorstep yet remain unable to utilize it,” she remarked.

During a session with the Barmouth Harbour Consultative Committee, she brought up the issue and expressed to the members that it was “extremely regrettable” that action couldnโ€™t be taken regarding the state of the beach.
