The Japanese fast-food restaurant Matsuya has introduced “Vietnamese-style fried rice with pork” onto the menus at over 1,100 locations across the country, representing a significant milestone for Vietnamese food gaining popularity in Japan.

The introduction of the new menu item took place on August 26 at Matsuya’s Roppongi location in Tokyo. The Vietnamese ambassador to Japan, Pham Quang Hieu, was present at the gathering and presented the dish to regional journalists.

The head of Matsuya, Aya Aoki, mentioned that the company found damaged grains during inspections in Vietnam and chose to restore its taste in Japan. A trial initiative launched in April 2025 received favorable responses, prompting an expanded national launch.

As stated by the Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Japan, Ta Duc Minh, the meal will include authentic Vietnamese fish sauce, representing the initial instance of this seasoning being utilized by a prominent restaurant chain in Japan.

In order to assist the launch, 10 tons of fish sauce were brought in directly from Vietnam.

Minh stated that the collaboration highlights the standard of Vietnamese goods and will open up opportunities for increased shipments of rice, coffee, fruits, and prepared food items to Japan, simultaneously enhancing economic relations between the two countries.
