US to Revoke Visas for All South Sudanese Nationals, Secretary of State Marco Rubio Announces

Due to the transitional government of South Sudan not allowing the return of its repatriated citizens, the United States is canceling visas for individuals holding passports from South Sudan.

On Saturday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he is moving forward with measures to cancel all visas currently held by individuals from South Sudan and to impose restrictions on issuing new ones, aiming to stop them from entering the United States.

Rubio stated on social media that the rationale behind the relocation is the inability of South Sudan’s transitional government to promptly accept the return of its repatriated citizens.

“Effective immediately, I am implementing measures to cancel all visas issued to individuals holding passports from South Sudan and to halt future issuances aimed at preventing their entry into the United States. This action comes as a result of South Sudan’s transitional government failing to promptly facilitate the return of its repatriated citizens,” wrote Rubio.
