I’m reaching out to bring attention to a problem affecting numerous mobile users in Pakistan: unsolicited enrollments in premium services (VAS) offered by telecommunication companies, notably Jazz.

At 5:21 a.m. on August 22, 2025, when I was resting, I started receiving unwanted OTPs related to the ‘Tamasha’ service, shortly after which unexpected withdrawals occurred from my account. I had not initiated or authorized this subscription, but fees were charged without my approval.

This is not a standalone incident but rather a component of a larger trend involving unjust trading methods. These activities infringe upon customer rights and go against the rules set by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which forbid signing up consumers for services without their clear approval. Coercive enrollments and charges constitute deception and deceptive invoicing, undermining confidence in the telecommunications industry.

Numerous clientsโ€”especially individuals who are not very familiar with technologyโ€”might not recognize these reductions, making them susceptible to being taken advantage of.

I call upon the PTA to implement more rigorous monitoring, apply severe fines to those who break the rules, and require clear permission processes. Telecommunication providers such as Jazz should reimburse illegal charges, turn off unwanted services, and make sure these actions cease entirely.

Your magazine should emphasize this issue and support the protection of customer interests. The general population deserves a telecommunications industry that prioritizes integrity and equity rather than maximizing profits.
