Mumbai (Maharashtra), India – On March 28 ANI reported: Following his game-saving performance against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals’ (DC) batsman Ashutosh Sharma spoke about the advice he received from his former Punjab Kings (PBKS) team mate Shikhar Dhawan and current Delhi Capitals mentor, ex-England player Kevin Pietersen.

Ashutosh picked up right where he left off with PBKS last season, leading DC to a nail-biting one-wicket victory over LSG in Visakhapatnam, making for an incredibly exciting match.

While addressing the reception of advice from Dhawan and Pietersen, Ashutosh commented in the Star Sports Press Room that these veterans consistently share insights with young players regarding their mindset towards the game, the attitudes they ought to adopt, and strategies for managing high-pressure scenarios.

“People share many insights with meโ€”about staying composed during such scenarios and maintaining mental clarity. During the recent clash with LSG, I conversed with Kevin Pietersen who advised, โ€˜Simply stick to your style of play. Be expressive and confident.โ€™ His faith in me made an impact; thus, I wished to honor his contribution through my celebratory gesture as heโ€™s truly a legend,โ€ he mentioned.

During his breakthrough season with PBKS, Ashutosh paired up effectively with Shashank Singh to create formidable finishers. Guided extensively by former Indian opening batsman Shikhar, Ashutosh concluded the campaign with 189 runs across nine games, maintaining an average of 27.00 and striking at more than 167, including one fifty. His highest score stood at 61.

In 32 T20s, Ashutosh, playing for Railways in domestic cricket, has made 838 runs at an average of 36.43 and a strike rate of over 184, with eight half-centuries and best score of 84. He has the record for the fastest T20 half-century by an Indian, in just 11 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

When discussing his mentality and strategy for playing, Ashutosh mentioned that everything hinges on the circumstances at hand.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t connect with the ball during the initial throw. Things became easier after facing 20 deliveries. However, everything relies on the scenario. If I only get two overs, I must aim for powerful hits right from the start. Yet, when I have around eight to ten overs, my strategy changes. This adjustment also hinges on the number of wickets still available. My mind remains crystal clear; I consistently concentrate on my responsibilities. For me, following the procedure is crucial. Adhering strictly to this method ensures good outcomes, which is something I firmly stand by. Overthinking or fretting about future actions doesnโ€™t cross my mind. Regardless of where I find myself or what transpires, contentment follows,โ€ he stated. (ANI)
