Alina Habba is returning back.
New Jersey
to act as temporary U.S. Attorney for the district.

Habba was President
Donald Trump
was his personal lawyer during legal cases between his initial and subsequent terms before becoming a senior advisor for his 2024 run.

Following only two months as Counselor to the President in Washington, D.C., Habba is returning to her home state to take on the role of interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, according to an announcement made by Trump on Monday.

Her selection by Trump happens as John Giordano, who previously held the position, is stepping down to move over to the State Department side and become Trump’s ambassador to Namibia.

I feel privileged to represent my home state of New Jersey as the interim U.S. Attorney, and I appreciate President Trump for placing his trust in me with such an immense duty,” Habba stated on X. “Similar to when I served as President Trumpโ€™s personal lawyer, I remain committed to advocating for truth and justice.

“We will put an end to the use of justice as aweapon, once and for all,” she pledged.

Habba initially encountered Trump at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey, back in 2019. Following this meeting, she was invited for an interview with his legal team shortly thereafter.

During a press briefing at the White House on Monday, the lawyer verified her upcoming exit from the administration.

She similarly criticized New Jersey’s Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, along with Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.), for supposedly not tackling crime issues within the state.

“There is corruption, injustice, and significant criminal activity happening in Senator Cory Booker’s vicinity and right under Governor Murphyโ€™s watch โ€“ this will change,” she stated briefly to journalists at the White House.

I am eager to collaborate with Pam Bondi at the Department of Justice and ensure that we advance the Presidentโ€™s agenda focused on prioritizing America, addressing issues, and targeting individuals who deserve our attention rather than those unjustly accused,” she stated firmly, adding: “This practice will cease immediately within the fine state of New Jersey.

Habba stated that Booker and Murphy have ‘disappointed’ New Jersey and ‘overlooked’ the crimes occurring there.

When questioned about whether this temporary role is intended to pave the way for a more senior position in New Jersey, she remained silent.

Assigning Habba to the crucial attorney position emerges as Trump proceeds with reshuffling these key legal roles across the nation. This move occurs while he targets the U.S. justice system, perceiving it has been utilized against him.

“I’m delighted to announce that Alina Habba, Esq., who is presently serving as Counselor to the President and has been representing me for many years, will serve as our interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, her home state, starting right away!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

‘Alicia will spearhead efforts with the same dedication and resolve that have characterized her career, and she will work relentlessly to establish a Legal System that is truly Fair and Just for the amazing people of New Jersey,’ the president remarked.
