The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that President Bola Tinubu plans to visit at least one of the Area Councils for the inauguration of a project, which is scheduled during festivities commemorating his second year in office.

During his inspection of the ongoing road projects in Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Bwari Area Councils in Abuja on Saturday, the Minister addressed queries from journalists when responding to their questions post-inspection.

According to The PUNCH, in 2024, President Tinubu inaugurated the Abuja Metro Rail system. This includes the 27-kilometer Southern Parkway extending from the Christian Ecumenical Centre where it intersects with Goodluck Jonathan Way, continuing all the way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway and reaching as far as the M18 road infrastructure located in Guzape District, Abuja. In honor of the distinguished author Chinua Achebe, this particular segment was officially designated under his namesake.

Wike said the commissioning event will provide an opportunity for the people to see and connect with the President, and that Tinubu equally identifies with the people.

We’ll figure this out together. At the very least, Tinubu ought to visit an Area Council where citizens can witness firsthand that he is indeed the President. Itโ€™s important for him not to focus solely on activities within the city limits; instead, he should make sure to tour at least one or two Area Councils as well. This way, the public will feel more connected knowing they have a president who cares about all regions.

“We can confirm that for trips to Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Bwari, particularly since Bwari has developed into a city featuring the Law School. We will ensure that the President visits these areas to connect with his constituents,” he stated.

Wike further mentioned that the President was dedicated to fostering growth in the satellite towns just as much as in the urban center, emphasizing that these initiatives would enable locals easier entry into the city.

This also reveals how the President and Commander-in-Chief views the satellite towns. Itโ€™s clear he isnโ€™t focusing solely on the cities; instead, he has instructed us to prioritize the growth of these peripheral areas as well while we work on urban developments.

On April 5th, we visited three satellite towns within three area councils today. The first one was Gwagwalada, featuring roads such as Market Road, Palace Road, and Radio House Road, all set to be inaugurated with divine favor during the presidentโ€™s second anniversary. Next, we traveled to A2-Pai, part of the Kwali Area Council; this road stretches approximately 15 kilometers long. About 13 kilometers of it has been paved using an asphalt-wearing course technique, ready for transfer into our possession when marking the presidential termโ€™s two-year milestone.

Currently, we are in Ushafa, which is part of the Bwari Area Council. Thereโ€™s an A2 road here that leads to the War College, while another branch heads into the community. Additionally, there is yet another section serving different areas nearby. This indicates ongoing development within the area council as they connect these smaller townships with larger urban centers. The contractor has committed to handing over the project before the presidentโ€™s two-year mark, and this news brings us joy.

“That indicates that Mr. President is highly enthusiastic about developing the satellite towns. With this development, how long would your commute into the city be? You could focus and live here while going to work. We are quite pleased,” he said.

The Minister likewise showed contentment with the caliber of work executed, observing that the contractors were “maintaining high standards,” and guaranteeing the delivery of top-notch facilities.
