The company transformed its second-top selling model into an all-electric version and increased the cost. Does it justify the expense?

  • The editor-in-chief of InsideEVs, Patrick George, test-drives the electric Porsche Macan 4.
  • The electric version of the Macan has no mechanical connection to its gasoline-powered counterpart and comes with a significantly higher price tag.
  • It’s not flawless, but it offers an excellent all-around experience that demonstrates Porsche has gained significant knowledge from developing the Taycan.

You often spot Porsche Macans across the globe, being driven by individuals wearing high-end sunglasses and carrying luxury handbags. It represents the most affordable means to join the…

cosmos, and it combines outstanding handling on roads with elegance and usefulness, becoming a popular choice worldwide.

But now that
The Macan combustion engine model is being discontinued.
and substituted with a significantly pricier all-electric version, can it continue to retain its appeal? Both versions of the Macan remain available for purchase currently, and so far this year, it is the electric variant that
has proven more popular
even though it went electric (and possibly losing some customers) and increased the cost.

Although the electric Macan is showing promising success, Porsche is not taking any risks and has announced that it is developing
a fresh mid-sized internal combustion engine SUV
It is expected to launch in 2028, and it will not be named Macan.

Although the Macan EV costs more than the ICE version, it offers a superior, more mature driving experience. The two models share no mechanical similarities, with the electric variant built on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which also serves as the foundation for several others.

However, Patrick George, the Editor-in-Chief at InsideEVs, has spent additional time driving the vehicle and shared predominantly favorable feedback. His test unit was a Macan 4 equipped with a twin-motor system delivering 402 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. This performance enables the Macan EV to reach 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 137 mph.

The Macan 4 boasts an EPA range rating of 308 miles, though this decreases slightly when opting for the bigger RS spider-style 22-inch wheels, such as those featured on Patrickโ€™s test vehicle. Intriguingly, when Out of Spec Reviews…
operated a Macan Turbo vehicle at a speed of 70 miles per hour
It actually surpassed its 288-mile EPA rating by 2 miles when equipped with 22-inch wheels. Tom Moloughney
traveled 343 miles with the standard rear-wheel-drive Macan
with 20-inch aero wheels, exceeding its projected 315-mile EPA range by nearly 10%

Priced at $81,600 from the start, the all-wheel-drive Macan 4 is certainly costly. Patrickโ€™s test model came with several add-ons, bringing the total to $94,855โ€”a significant amount even for a Macan regardless of its powertrain. Patrick found himself missing one-pedal operation, something the Macan lacks entirely, and it could use a little more excitement during high-speed drives. However, overall, it functions very effectively, offering practicality, solid construction, and a unified design. It clearly demonstrates that Porsche has become more skilled in producing electric vehicles, and in various aspects, it seems like an enhancement over previous models.
