Sony has shared insights into how their strategy for developing games has evolved following the release of Concord, aiming to prevent future major failures.

Sony PlayStation could be experiencing significant success in terms of
console sales
but it hasn’t offered many exclusive titles worth mentioning lately.

Last yearโ€™s
Astro Bot
helped somewhat to hide the flaws, but there are very few successes elsewhere โ€“ with numerous studios now burdened by live-service initiatives such as Fairgames,
Marathon
, and the
heavily rumoured
Horizon Online.

Sony’s early ambitious plans for live services have led to numerous project cancellations, including the
dramatic flop of Concord
which has made its initial lineup of games appear remarkably sparse for the next few months – with just the solo campaign “Ghost Of Yลtei” managing to fill the gap in 2025.

The collapse of Concord, which was halted following two weeks of development and reportedly incurred expenses exceeding $250 million (ยฃ184,856), has prompted modifications in how Sony evaluates its games, aiming to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Speaking to the
Financial Times
Hermen Hulst, Chief Executive Officer of the Studio Business Group at PlayStation Studios, stated: “I don’t want teams to constantly take the safe route, but I do hope that when we make mistakes, they happen quickly and with minimal cost.”

When talking about changes following Concord, Hulst stated: ‘The quantity [of live service updates] isnโ€™t as significant. What matters most to me is offering a wide range of player experiences and various community groups.’
