A well-known durian live-stream vendor in Singapore faced backlash following footage surfaced depicting employees handling the fruit under unsanitary conditions.

Videos uploaded to the TikTok profile @sgexposed7 depicted an employee using a gloved hand to wipe their nose before resuming contact with durian fruits.

A different video depicted him talking directly above uncovered durian meat without a face shield, accompanied by a caption that humorously stated: “He’s correct about selling the finest durian because of his [additional component] of saliva,”

The person managing the TikTok account informed the source that the video was captured during a live stream from the durian store on July 8th.

He mentioned he was taken aback by “a total lack of attention to fundamental food safety standards,” pointing out that an employee kept working even after injuring himself, finally wearing a glove only after someone else spoke up. He characterized the actions as “negligent” and “somewhat rebellious.”

As a reply, Eric Xie, the founder of HengBros Singapore, who managed the live stream, confirmed he had received feedback from viewers. He emphasized that the company possesses an official Singapore Food Agency permit and mentioned that the durians provided to clients undergo inspection, sealing, and preparation by qualified employees, rather than the people shown in the live streams.

Packaged durians are not meant for individual use; they should be placed on our shelves, sealed, and then sold,” Xie stated. “Our live streamers simply aim to demonstrate the productโ€™s quality and consume the durians themselves during their broadcasts.

In reference to the video showing an employee using a gloved hand to wipe his nose, Xie stated that the person was actually cutting the durian with a knife instead of using their hands. He also mentioned that a police complaint has been lodged against the @sgexposed social media account.
