It was inevitable for Renel Brooks-Moon not to observe the symmetry this week. After all the challenges faced over time, it became quite noticeable.

Brooks-Moon is among the two newly appointed public address announcers.

In “MLB The Show 25,” the official video game published by Sony yearly, stadium announcements have been featured. To this 66-year-old individual, dedicating countless hours to record player names pales in comparison to remaining involved with baseball.

I’m still very much involved in the game and the sport that I adore,” Brooks-Moon said earlier this week. “It’s my favorite sport. It’s truly an enormous giftโ€”and it’s incredibly enjoyable.

“MLB The Show” first announced her participation in the game last month.

The expanded release of fresh content scheduled for the 2025 game presents an ideal moment for Brooks-Moon, whose prominence in the Bay Area predates her association with the Giants. With parents both dedicated to education, Brooks-Moon has spent her entire life in the Bay Area, hailing from Oakland, growing up in the East Bay and Menlo Park, and graduating from Mills College. She gained regional fame through her tenure as a host on KMEL-FM, one of the pioneering stations to champion hip-hop music in the area.

And her brothers and sisters became big baseball enthusiasts, which made the opportunity to try out for the San Francisco Giants’ public address announcer position even more significant when it came up just before the teamโ€™s new stadium opened. She ended up getting the job and served as the voice behind the microphone for nearly all of the Giants’ home games held at 24 Willie Mays Plaza from the year 2000 until 2023.

Over time, Brooks-Moon evolved beyond being merely a public address announcer. She often served as an emcee and host for Giants pre-game ceremonies on the field and also handled hosting duties for promotional events separate from baseball games, such as the โ€œ
Forever Giants
video series along with Giants Community Fund events. She was an adored member of the Giants community.

This is why Brooks-Moonโ€™s departure from the PA announcer position โ€” which the organization stated was a mutual decision back then โ€” took place.

for the fans. The choice was made on March 18, which coincided with that date.

“Renel Brooks-Moon Day,” declared by then-San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom back in 2005, only sharpened the edge further.

Although Brooks-Moon prefers not to reminisce about her days with the Giants, it’s clear that the incident continues to cause her distressโ€”so much so that she plans to relocate from the Bay Area for several months starting in late March. This will mark the first time she has ever resided outside her hometown area.

Following her removal from the position, Brooks-Moon has received an abundance of backing and affection. California Assemblymember Matt Haney noted this development.

The Woman of the Year for Assembly District 17, covering the eastern part of San Francisco, was recognized in June 2024. Previously, on the same date last December, former Congresswoman Barbara Lee had commended her on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
London Breed, who was the mayor of San Francisco at that time, presented her with a key.
To the city. These significant events, along with more minor occurrencesโ€”including personal engagements with fans over the past yearโ€”have greatly assisted Brooks-Moon as she navigates her future professional path.

The support I’ve received over the past year has been absolutely amazing,” Brooks-Moon stated. “I’m incredibly grateful to be recognized for the influence I had both on the radio and at the stadium.

This year has been all about embracing new opportunities. In February, Brooks-Moon served as an emcee for the memorial services celebrating the lives of two notable figures: Oakland A’s legend Rickey Henderson and ex-Raider Morris Bradshaw. She mentioned feeling genuinely privileged to be part of these events.

However, the greatest opportunity has been with “MLB The Show,” where sheโ€™s

The Orioles’ PA announcer, Adrienne Roberson, will be one of the gameโ€™s two new in-stadium voices. The extensive effort required to record herself announcing each individual MLB player’s name allowed Brooks-Moon to showcase her vocal skills, which she has honed over many years, and also brought back some familiar techniques.

It was incredibly enjoyable,” Brooks-Moon stated. “I tackled it similar to how I used to handle my radio programs from way back since clearly, I couldn’t see the listeners; I couldn’t spot the audience. Hence, I needed to picture who I was addressing during the morning slot. These folks could be stuck on the Bay Bridge or perhaps busy preparing their children for school. I had to imagine such scenarios.

Brooks-Moon mentioned that she captured every player during the match as though she was announcing for their personal teams. However, she acknowledged embellishing her commentary when referring to “her boys” from the Giants, singling out LaMonte Wade Jr., Mike Yastrzemski, Wilmer Flores, Tyler Rogers, and Patrick Bailey as instances where she added some flair.

The most significant aspect of the “MLB The Show” project for her has been witnessing her great-nephew’s excitement over her inclusion in the video game. When asked, Brooks-Moon jokingly mentioned that the last video game she played was Pac-Man, released way back in 1980. In fact, she admitted not knowing what a PlayStation 5 was until recently. However, this unfamiliarity serves as an opportunity for her to bond with the young boy who continues the family legacy of enjoying baseball.

He will assist Auntie Nell since I must have it, correct? However, Iโ€™ll require a tutor, and who would make a better tutor than my 9-year-old nephew?” Brooks-Moon mentioned while discussing her participation in the video adaptation of the game. “Heโ€™s really thrilled about helping his auntie, and heโ€™s extremely excited that I’ll depend on him as my guide.
