On April 2nd, the Supreme Court of Nepal issued a show-cause notice concerning a petition challenging the appointment of Sharad Ojha as the Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

Following a hearing on the writ, Justice Nahakul Subedi from a single-judge bench issued a show-cause notice on Wednesday, requesting both the petitioner and the respondents to participate in additional deliberations.

The petition, contesting Mr. Ojha’s appointment, was submitted by Attorney Indira Dhimal on March 30. It named the Prime Ministerโ€™s Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Recommendation Committee, NIA, and Sharad Ojha himself as parties involved.

The Council of Ministers’ meeting held on February 24 resolved to appoint Sharad Ojha as the Chairperson of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Ojha, lacking significant management expertise, has faced allegations of appointment due to pressure from influential groups. Previously, he was also subjected to a grievance filed with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
