Rio Ferdinand
has shared the reason for moving to Dubai only a few months following his departure from his commentary position at TNT Sports.

A 46-year-old ex-Manchester United and England defender revealed in May that he would be leaving the network after the previous season to concentrate on his entrepreneurial ventures.

Ferdinand, who spent 10 years at TNT Sports (formerly called BT Sport), has chosen to move his family to the United Arab Emirates, even though his 19-year-old son Lorenz has signed his initial professional deal with
Brighton
in July.

“There isn’t a single explanation,” Ferdinand said.

And I hadn’t visited properly for around seven or eight years. I used to go there frequently before.

We spent time with some of Kate’s partners’ friends who were living there, and I got to see another aspect of the place. I also run a business over there called Football Escapes.

In Dubai, people seem appreciated, and their way of living contributes to them being content and lively, filled with positive energy for children. Lifestyle, security, climate, and starting anew.

I desired a fresh start and have been involved with TNT (TV) ever since retiring for the past 10 to 11 years. When I decided, I realized ‘this should be the time when my life isn’t controlled by the schedule anymore. Not now. I’m still connected to football, but it’s no longer the central force in my life. Honestly, it feels good.

The legend later acknowledged that his decision was largely driven by the importance of his children’s schooling.

Ferdinand has two sons, Cree aged four and Shae aged two, along with his wife Kate, who is also the stepmother to his three teenagers—Lorenz, Tate (17), and Tia (14)—from his earlier relationship with Rebecca Ellison.

“I considered relocating, but then we returned in February for a brief visit to the schools just in case, and it made me start thinking about it again,” he said.

That was nearly similar to a major boost for me since the educational environment seemed more favorable, improved for my children. The students arriving are 14 years old, which is ideal as they will begin their two-year GCSE program this August.

Then we have a four-year-old and a two-year-old, making this an ideal time for them too. The syllabus follows the English curriculum, but it’s delivered differently. I believe the teachers in the UK often feel undervalued and underpaid.

When he revealed his choice to depart from TNT Sports in May, Ferdinand stated: “Following 10 amazing years, I’ve taken the tough decision to move on from TNT Sports after the Champions League final.”

‘It has been an honor to discuss the sport I cherish for ten years through BT Sports and TNT Sports, since leaving professional football.’

I would like to express my gratitude for the incredible assistance provided by the individuals working backstage, whose diligent efforts remain unnoticed yet have played a crucial role in our achievements.

To all at TNT Sports, we’re looking forward to an exciting conclusion to the season this Saturday, and for the time being, our attention will remain fixed on what I believe could become one of the greatest European finals.

The network remains strong with an unprecedented number of rights, and I am eager to watch its development and the thrilling prospects that await. Finally, I want to express my gratitude to my family and my management firm, New Era, for their continuous assistance.

They’ve helped me journey across Europe to follow top athletes and witness outstanding games. As a devoted soccer enthusiast, this has been an incredible experience.

As I flip to the next chapter, I bring along many cherished memories. I am eager for what lies ahead, including investing more time with my family, concentrating on Rio Ferdinand Presents, and my additional ventures.

I wish to maintain contact with each of you in various ways. Many thanks once more for everything.
