Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari stated on Tuesday that the provincial administration hasnโ€™t taken even one rupee in loans from the State Bank of Pakistan, calling current allegations inaccurate and deceptive. She pointed out that such news stems from misinterpretation and insufficient understanding of finances, leading to unnecessary confusion among people and journalists.

Azma Bukhari clarified that the mentioned amount of Rs405 billion is not a loan, but rather an investment made by Punjab in federal government Treasury bills. She stated that this investment is intended to earn profits and must not be viewed as taking a loan. This highlights the province’s effective financial administration and its position of having excess funds.

The minister pointed out that Punjab has an excess of over Rs1 trillion in its financial reserves. She emphasized that the provincial administration doesnโ€™t need funding from any organization, including the State Bank, showcasing sound financial management and meticulous budgeting.

Additionally, Azma Bukhari pointed out that none of the government agencies managed by Punjab have obtained any loans. She expressed disapproval of the report for linking actions of federal government bodies to the provincial government, highlighting the significance of precise reporting concerning financial issues.

She further informed the general population that according to the State Bank of Pakistan Act, neither the central nor regional governments may obtain direct loans from the State Bank following 2019. This legislative structure promotes openness and prevents illicit lending.

In conclusion, the minister cautioned that reporters disseminating inaccurate stories must admit their mistakes and refrain from publishing unrelated content. She mentioned that legal measures could be pursued if these deceptive articles persist, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring responsibility.
