Nothing is scarier than an angry woman and a container of bleach.

It could very well be a line from Maisie Peters’ song, yet the urge to alter our hair color or switch from lengthy tresses to a short haircut following a distressing event is an experience many women can relate to.

Itโ€™s an opportunity for
transformation
and a new beginning, most recently speculated to have been embraced by

The princess has experienced a challenging phase of transformation. Although it remains unclear if she dyed her hair or it has naturally lightened due to sunlight, Kate definitely appears different now.

Why do we experience fresh challenges even after enduring tough times? “A noticeable transformation can serve as a reminder that we’re starting over,” says psychotherapist Eloise Skinner.

A fresh appearance may also represent an instance of self-empowerment.
Emma Watson
she famously cut her lengthy hair at the conclusion of Harry Potter, and following the cancellation of her relationship with Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus switched from her long hairstyle to a light blond bob as she
perched atop a demolition sphere.

However, this change in appearance isn’t limited to celebrities. Kate Flounders, 44, transitioned from having dark hair to becoming a blonde after ending her marriage of 12 years in May 2023.

“I must get over what occurred and the emotions involved โ€” I gained a fresh feeling of liberation,” Kate says.

I nearly left behind the person I used to be, and becoming blonde was the pivotal transformation.

Changing your hair is the simplest aspect we can alter and manage to create a feeling of independence.

‘It provides others with something to concentrate on instead of the events that have occurred, allowing us to process the underlying issues unconsciously, helping us regain our wholeness.’

The shift from a darker shade to a light blonde look boosted Kate’s self-assurance, enabling her to take actions she hadn’t considered during her marriage, such as connecting with different social circles and participating in clubs related to her interests.

She explained, ‘It provided me with an additional push when I wasn’t particularly feeling confident.’

Psychologist Eloise concurs, noting that fresh haircuts and shades can serve as reminders of our desire to behave or perceive things differently.

They can serve as a consistent and visible reminder of our fresh goals,” she states. “New haircuts, which make us feel they accurately reflect who we are and for which we’re satisfied with the outcome, can definitely improve one’s spirit.

‘It could boost our confidence, enhance our sense of assurance, and encourage us to present ourselves to others, which can prove beneficial across many areas โ€” such as professional life, personal relationships, and forming new connections.’

Also, Kate is not the sole person undergoing this transformation. Catherine Warrilow, aged 46, turned her hair bright red after losing her position in 2023.

โ€˜I needed a change to feel grounded and confident, like I could step out with real purpose and it spurred me on to set up my freelance business,โ€™ she tells

Catherine isnโ€™t unfamiliar with a box of hair color; she first altered her look during her teenage years.

I’m naturally an auburn redheaded person, and my mom told me I wasn’t allowed to color it blonde because it would turn green,” says the Hartlepool resident. “Once I found out I could, I turned blonde as an act of defiance.

โ€˜Then I went from white blonde in my early twenties to almost black because I wanted to look like
Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction
.โ€™

Catherine has consistently loved trying new things and reshaping her appearance, as it gives her a ‘fresh sense of energy and self-assurance’.

โ€˜It might seem shallow but experimenting with the way you look is positive โ€“ itโ€™s not about being unhappy in yourself,โ€™ she adds. โ€˜Itโ€™s about tackling a new challenge in my life and wanting to feel bold.

A minor alteration can serve as an excellent beginning for a more significant shift in perspective. When I glance at myself in the mirror each morning, my hairstyle conveys that I’m prepared for whatever comes nextโ€”I am aware of my ability to make choices that align with my needs.

In conclusion, Eloise states that a fresh hairstyle serves as a reminder of our ability to transform and offers an effective method to alter our lives.

It could also push us toward significant shifts in our way of living,” she remarks. “It’s an exhilarating addition to a fresh chapter in life.
