The Gombe State Police Command has issued a clarification regarding their current investigation into a case that includes charges of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, attempting to cause culpable homicide, and possessing stolen goods.

According to our reporter, this follows up on a popular video by Shiekh Albany Gombe, where he reportedly spread inaccurate information regarding the probe.

In a press release, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Buhari Abdullahi, who serves as the public relations officer for the Gombe State Police Command, stated: “We have become aware of a widely circulated video attributed to Sheikh Albany Gombe that is being shared across various social media platforms. In this footage, the religious leader makes assertions that are both deceptive and inflammatory, along with presenting inaccurate information about an active police inquiry.”

Abdullahi stated that two individuals, Daniel Hamma, aged 36, and Garba Usman, also known as Mali, who is 32 years old, have been apprehended in relation to the incident. He further mentioned that during the investigation, law enforcement officials carried out a search at Garba Usman’s home, uncovering two red motorcycles, one cutlass, an assortment of motorcycle components, along with several pieces of police equipment.

He pointed out that the suspects admitted to the armed robbery and murder that occurred on March 1, 2025, describing how a victim was viciously assaulted and killed. He added that subsequent investigations resulted in the apprehension of Bala Danyaya, aged 29, after he acknowledged obtaining six motorbikes from these suspects during the period spanning from 2024 to 2025.

The police command similarly refuted the clergyman’s incorrect assertion that all suspects were non-Muslims. They emphasized, “This statement is completely unfounded.”

“The second suspect, Garba Usman also known as Mali, along with the individual who received the stolen motorcycles, Bala Danyaya, both identify as Muslims. Portraying such information in a way that highlights religion can be not just irresponsible but also threatening to communal harmony,” he stated additionally.

Abdullahi cautioned the public, saying, “We strongly caution members of the public, particularly individuals in positions of influence, to desist from making inciting, misleading, or inflammatory statements that could jeopardise police investigations or trigger unrest. Misinformation, especially along religious or ethnic lines, is a serious threat to law and order.”

He affirmed that the suspects are still being held by the police and that the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing that “once completed, they will face charges in court,” adding that the Command is dedicated to transparency, delivering justice, and ensuring peace and security throughout Gombe State.
