MANILA, Philippines – The Sy-family led National University (NU) celebrates its 125th anniversary this year by inaugurating two additional campuses—one in Cebu and another in Las Piñas—increasing their total number of campuses to 14.

The said expansion aims to boost student enrollment up to 85,000, further solidifying NU’s dedication to its mission of offering affordable and high-quality education to an increased number of Filipinos, as mentioned in a press release from the firm.

The newly planned campuses, set to launch later this year at various SM locations, are expected to play a crucial role in NU’s aim to expand educational access nationwide.

Henry Sy Sr., the founder of the SM Group, strongly held the view that education plays a crucial role in overcoming poverty, and his conviction has steered the Sy family’s backing of NU ever since 2008.

‘Giving back’

We have been growing with the aim of offering greater access to high-quality education, as this lies at the heart of the SM Group’s dedication to societal welfare,” states Renato Carlos Ermita Jr., President and CEO of NU. “For our organization, contributing positively involves making educational excellence available to more Filipinos irrespective of their origins. The Sy family has consistently pursued top-tier standards across all aspects including academic achievements, facilities development, and athletic programs here at NU.

NU adheres to an open admission strategy and allocates resources towards evaluations aimed at identifying required support measures for senior high school graduates to ensure they are prepared for college-level studies.
