A night train service linking Berlin and Brussels will cease operations by the end of March.

The Nightjet connecting the capital cities of Germany and Belgium operates thrice weekly at present.

The service is run by ร–BB, which is Austriaโ€™s national railway company, and forms part of an extensive network of overnight train routes linking numerous major German cities with various locations across Europe.

Sleeper train discontinued due to construction activities in Germany

The Nightjet sleeper train from Berlin to

Brussels

, which began operations in December 2023, will be shutting down on March 28.

The indefinite cancellation of the service was declared by ร–BB and initially uncovered by The Man is Seat 61 โ€” a site dedicated to European railway journeys.

โ€œDue to the challenging last-minute track maintenance in Germany and (undoubtedly) because it operates on the same three weekdays as the European Sleeper, they appear to have conceded defeat,โ€ noted founder Mark Smith.

The connection from Berlin’s Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhhof to Brussels Midi took approximately 14 hours.

Alternative night train choices for traveling from Berlin to Brussels

Travelers can continue their journey between Berlin and Brussels via an overnight train with the use of the European Sleeper service.

Similar to the Nightjet route, the

European sleeper

departures from Berlin’s Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhof stations occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The train halts at Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp en route. Additionally, the path now stretches to include Dresden and Prague.

Tickets for the overnight service begin at โ‚ฌ79 per person for a six-person couchette, โ‚ฌ99 for a five-person couchette, and โ‚ฌ109 for a bed in a three-bed sleeper.

“Itโ€™s worthwhile to pay extra for a couchette in a 5-berth compartment since each person gets more space compared to a 6-berth, plus the carriage is nicer with air conditioning,” notes Smith in his review.

Thanks to the welcoming team, cozy bedding, and complimentary morning meal, this is an excellent approach to journeying.
