Last month, Naver’s new AI-driven shopping application, Naver Plus Store, became the most downloaded shopping app in South Korea, surpassing China’s Temu, which had dominated the number one position for more than 12 months.

Based on data from mobile analytics company IGAWorks, Naver Plus Store led in new app installations for shopping platforms in March with 2.84 million downloads, marking the highest figure across all such applications. In second place was Temu with 1.16 million downloads, trailed by Karrot (492,425), Coupang (466,444), and AliExpress (367,568) respectively. Since launching in South Korea back in September 2023, Temu has consistently held the top position regarding fresh installs.

On March 12, Naver entered the e-commerce arena with the launch of the Naver Plus Store. Leveraging their advanced AI system, HyperCLOVA X, the platform analyzes both product information and user purchasing patterns to offer tailored recommendations. So, when searching for “laptop,” the AI could propose choices such as one suited for traveling light or another ideal for gaming purposes, alongside corresponding merchandise matches.

Nonetheless, the Naver Plus Store trails significantly behind key competitors in terms of user count. As of March, Coupang topped the list with 32.9 million monthly active users (MAU). This was followed by AliExpress at 7.1 million, Temu with 6.7 million, and the Naver Plus Store lagging considerably at 2.6 million. To bolster its e-commerce operations, Naver intends to enhance AI-powered personalization features and launch a novel “Instant Delivery” service aimed at providing deliveries within one hour.
