President William Ruto

to visit the county as the Mt Kenya area gets ready to welcome the President next week.

The anticipated President’s trip to the region has sparked hot debates on social media particularly considering it’s his maiden visit since his fallout with his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

Following the 2022 elections, the President lost popularity among the area that had strongly supported him, as inhabitants complained about adverse economic circumstances.

The situation worsened due to the contentious Finance Bill 2023 and the ensuing impeachment of Gachgua, an event perceived by the area as a act of treachery.

However, the leaders comprising Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo, nominated senator Veronica Maina, nominated MP Sabina Chege, and women’s representative Betty Maina asserted that the area is prepared to accommodate the President.

Chege emphasized the importance of concentrating on progress rather than engaging excessively in politics, noting that elections remain distant.

She observed that increased political tensions negatively influence the economy and have an effect on people from various backgrounds across Kenya.

Chege praised the President for stepping in regarding Margaret Nduta’s situation, as she is facing the death penalty in Vietnam following her conviction for drug smuggling.

“She told the President that they are deeply thankful for his intervention which halted her execution,” she stated.

It is anticipated that Ruto will commence his visit to the Mt Kenya area on April 1st.

Nominee Senator Veronica Maina also mentioned that work on the Mau Mau roads initiative has been restarted.

The project has led to significant distress among local residents, particularly during the monsoon season, because contractors abandoned the work areas after digging up the roads, leaving them vulnerable to deterioration.

“We are dispatching the Deputy President (Kithure Kindiki) with a single message: The President is invited to visit Murang’a. Our aim is to see increased development in Murang’a,” she stated.

Kindiki had visited Gikore market in Mathegani sub-county, which was constructed in

stalled for years.

The Gikoe market, which is currently 80 percent completed, is among the 14 Economic Stimulus Projects (ESP) markets under construction within the region.

TheDP informed Murang’a residents that all current development initiatives would be finished promptly.

“We aim to finish this market within four to five weeks, and subsequently, others will begin,” he stated.

He stated that the administration is eager about guaranteeing projects get finished and implemented so they can benefit local inhabitants.

The administration is currently building a new Sh342 million Kangari market and an additional Sh100 million Muthithi market in Kigumo constituency, as mentioned by the DP.

The market initiative launched in 2021 is anticipated to assist local farmers in pooling their products for entry into the export market upon completion.

It will include cooling systems, food establishments, meeting rooms, and contemporary restroom facilities.

Nevertheless, the six-story market faced delays in 2022 along with Muthithi Market, which commenced construction in 2022 and was slated for completion in 2023.

“I was dispatched by the President to guarantee that the execution of projects is accelerated so they may benefit the locals,” Kindiki stated to the residents of Gikoe.

He stated that the government’s job is to guarantee Kenyans receive essential services, whereas the opposition should focus on political activities.

“Regions without access to electricity will soon have connections, and we now have the resources needed to finish the Mau Mau road project. The following week, with God’s blessing, the President plans to visit, but his purpose won’t be political posturing; instead, he aims to inaugurate markets, electrification initiatives, power systems, and irrigation schemes,” stated Kindiki.

“We have decided that for the time being, we should cease dividing our community. Instead, let’s unite and work towards national cohesion,” he stated.
