Did Morocco and Madagascar participate in the CHAN 2024 tournament?

Morocco arrived at the competition as top contenders, supported by their solid CHAN history. A 1-0 loss against Kenya during the group phase cast uncertainty over their chances, yet they soon regained momentum with outstanding displays.

The team led by Tarik Sektioui has participated in six games, emerging victorious in four of them, suffering one defeat, and overcoming Senegal through a penalty shoot-out to advance to the championship match.

They have achieved success over teams like Angola, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Senegal, with Harambee Stars standing as the sole side that has beaten them. They claimed the championship in both 2018 and 2020.

They defeated Tanzania in the quarterfinals held at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

In contrast, Madagascar secured third place in the 2022 tournament and is currently experiencing an extraordinary journey.

Their campaign started with a tie and a loss, yet they have not suffered another setback since. They won against the Central African Republic and Burkina Faso during the group phase, as Tanzania was the sole team to overcome them.

They dashed Harambee Stars’ chances of claiming the championship by defeating them in the semifinal match.

On Tuesday, they barely beat Sudan 1-0, even though they got a red card in the 79th minute.

Who is expected to triumph in CHAN 2024?

Madagascar is seen as the underdog in this competition. Overcoming Kenya in front of their own fans was a remarkable feat, demonstrating their ability to perform well even in tough conditions.

“I am unable to put into words how I feel right now, as what occurred was incredible given the situation during our game,” said Madagascar’s coach Romuald Rakotondrabe following their victory over Sudan.

Morocco are the top contenders for the championship title, yet they will remain cautious against Barea, who are considered the underdogs.
