The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has once more criticized the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that it employed a mix of government authority, threats, and financial resources to sway the result of last Saturday’s local elections across multiple regions.

However, the “negative outlook for the APC,” as stated by the opposing party, suggests that financial resources “will not secure support” in 2027 since citizens will be strongly aware that the APC aims to continue causing hardship.

In an interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, National Publicity Secretary Hon Debo Ologunagba stated that the APC has not only turned hunger into a tool but also failed to tackle instability and financial challenges.

Citing incidents in Kaduna and Taraba States, the party claimed that voters faced not just intimidation but were also detained the evening prior to the election.

He claimed that the APC merely utilized the by-elections as an experiment for the strategy it intended to implement against the opposition in 2027.

Nevertheless, Ologunagba pointed out that in 2027, the issues facing the APC on the ballot would include food scarcity and instability.

He said, “We don’t refer to that as an election. We’ve also learned about the overconfidence of the APC. Their actions during those polls were a trial run for 2027. However, I bring some unfavorable news for the APC. What occurred in those by-elections—what they labeled as an election—won’t take place again in 2027. Why? Because the Nigerian populace has become more knowledgeable.”

They are suffering. The issues on the ballot in 2027 will reflect the pain, the doubt, and the lack of safety that cannot be bought with wealth.

Self-praise and flattery won’t rescue them in 2027. They’ve caused suffering for Nigerians over the past twelve years.

Nigerians will draw parallels with the prosperous era of the PDP. We can investigate those claims.

At the 2025 nationwide party convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo, Ologunagba stated that the party is completely prepared and operating at full capacity for the event.

He remembered that following the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering of the party, the PDP had established a zoning committee aimed at determining the allocation of important roles throughout the nation’s different geo-political regions.

The NPS mentioned that the committee, led by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Diri Douye, will present its findings for review during the upcoming 102nd NEC gathering of the PDP scheduled for next week.

“I can tell you that the party is prepared for Ibadan. Indeed, we are. This demonstrates the ability of the PDP to rise and act correctly. The PDP is ready for the conference according to the schedule set by the NEC,” he said.

Ologunagba dismissed claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, intended to hold an alternative gathering in Abuja, stating that the party adhered to proper procedures when organizing the event in Ibadan.

There exists a procedure, and we are fully committed to it. What we accomplish is by adhering to our party’s constitution. Notably, this process has commenced; we have maintained coordination with our regulatory body, INEC. INEC has been present at every meeting.

They have evidence of everything we’re accomplishing. This could be sensationalism (similarly); individuals exploring possibilities. Actually, it isn’t real.

“Can we simply ignore this and concentrate on our work as a group? Our progress continues, and we won’t dwell on what I might refer to as delusions,” he stated.

Wike set requirements for the PDP, stating they needed to be fulfilled prior to the Ibadan conference, such as requesting the party acknowledge the leadership formed at the South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar.

He maintained that Chief Dan Orbih, who became the National Vice-Chairman for the South-South region after the conference, should be acknowledged.

However, the party took issue with his stance, arguing that the term of the leadership elected at the conference had expired. Consequently, they appointed the regional interim committee led by Chief Emmanuel Obi to manage the zone’s matters until a new conference was held.
