Anselm Eidenojie, the Ojuromi of Uromi from the Esan North-East Local Government Area in Edo State, has added his voice to the condemnation expressed by many Nigerians regarding the unlawful execution of 16 travelers heading towards Kano State. This incident was allegedly carried out by individuals believed to be part of a vigilante group.

Eidenojie expressed these concerns via a statement, deplored the deteriorating condition of security in the region, and urged the government to deploy a Mobile Police Unit in Uromi.

Nevertheless, the conventional leader expressed empathy towards the inhabitants of Uromi, who had suffered from various crimes such as murders and abductions.

Supporting Eidenojie’s statement, Gregory Omonikhobhio, the Secretary of the Ojuromiโ€™s Palace, mentioned, “Following a gathering with the council, the palace endorsed the press release, with the king serving as the council’s leader.”

A portion of the declaration stated, “The Palace of His Royal Highness, The Ojuromi of Uromi, firmly denounces the horrific and regrettable murder of travelers within his jurisdiction.”

The leader of Uromi profoundly laments this incident of vigilante justice and conveys his sincere sympathies to the victim’s families, the residents of Kano, and all impacted communities.

His Majesty also empathizes with his own people, who have been victimized by criminals, experiencing abductions and extrajudicial executions that have afflicted Uromi and Esanland for an extended period.

Itโ€™s crucial to identify the underlying reasons behind this troubling occurrence. For many years, residents of Uromi have been pleading for assistance, calling upon local and national authorities to tackle the escalating security issues in Esanland. This event clearly demonstrates the inadequacy of effective security measures in Uromi. What was once merely a town has transformed into an expanding city and among the most rapidly developing areas in southern Nigeria.

As the area expands, so does its population, bringing with it a mix of peopleโ€”some contributing to instability. The present Uromi Divisional Police Station can no longer adequately protect residents and their belongings. This latest incident of criminal activity underscores the critical requirement for establishing a Rapid Response Unit, deploying paramilitary forces, and setting up a military outpost in Uromi to enhance overall safety.

The occurrence of such a brutal event unfolding over multiple hours without evident law enforcement response is profoundly disturbing. This highlights significant vulnerabilities within the areaโ€™s safety measures and underscores the urgent requirement for prompt and robust security enhancements.

King His Royal Majesty, the Ojuromi of Uromi, urgently requests the Federal Government to approve and formally assume control of the Mopol Barracks, initiated by the local community. This facility was constructed and presented to the Nigerian Police Force through the generous efforts of residents from within Uromi as well as those living overseas.

โ€œWe also encourage the government to dispatch additional security officers and utilize the security frameworks that have been established within the community. This escalation of instability has made it impossible for our residents to reach their agricultural lands, jeopardizing their means of living and heightening conflicts,โ€ he stated.
