The longest summer sled run in Romania is scheduled to debut in the mountain resort of Sinaia, approximately 120 kilometers north of Bucharest, possibly opening around August 1. This project has an estimated value of RON 12 million (approximately EUR 2.4 million).

The town, home to the renowned Peleศ™ Castle, sees peak popularity during the wintertime. According to data from the Transportation Urban Authority, which oversees the resortโ€™s skiing facilities, approximately two million visits were recorded between November 28, 2024, and March 25, 2025.

By introducing the new sledging track, Sinaia aims to transform itself into a year-round attraction for visitors.

“Tourism during winter proved beneficial for Sinaia this season. Indeed, each passing year brings quicker melting snow, seemingly lesser amounts falling from the sky, fluctuating temperatures, significant variations in warmth levels, and stronger winds,” stated Maria Floricica, General Director of Transport Urban Sinaia, as reported by
Agerpres
.

“At present, our main focus is the summer sled project. We’ve already finalized the agreement for installing a monorail sledding system featuring 65 bobsled-style cars. This attraction will begin operations starting from Cota 1400 and end down at Cota 1000, near where the Sinaia gondola departs,” she explained further.

The sled will exceed two kilometers in length, making it the longest in Romania. Funding for this project comes from both the agencyโ€™s internal resources and a bank loan.

Atop the sled, Sinaia features significant events and bicycle routes that continue to attract tourists throughout the summertime.

“Discussing the topic of tourism in Romania and allocation of promotional resources involves examining where these funds go and who manages them. Itโ€™s crucial to assess how frequently this engagement occurs with Romanian citizens and local communities. Effective marketing efforts are possible; however, they necessitate substantial financial backing as well as robust communication strategies,” Floricicฤƒ stated at a promotional gathering aimed at industry experts focused on mountain retreats, known as ‘Rediscovering Valea Prahovei.’
