Budget retailer
Lidl
is launching its
personal take on Dubai-style chocolate
– Following Waitrose restricting the quantity of chocolate bars patrons were allowed to purchase.

Customers have been emptying the shelves of the latest food trend — a chocolate bar packed with pistachio cream and kataifi pastry, which consists of crunchy shredded phyllo dough — drawing inspiration from a traditional Middle Eastern treat known as kunafah.

The delicious dessert has turned into one of the
fastest-selling confectionary products ever at Selfridges
and
Waitrose
even
banned customers from buying more than two
Lindt’s £10
Dubai
Style Chocolate.

And now, Lidl is set to release its own variant this coming Saturday, March 29, at only a portion of the cost.

The supermarket caused quite a stir among fans just last week when it introduced its exclusive J.D. Gross Dubai Style Chocolate at Lidl.

Shoppers snapped up 6,000 bars in just over an hour and 72 every minute, prompting the retailer to make moves to stock the chocolate in its stores nationwide.

This Saturday the

Like Waitrose, Lidl will also be limiting the bars to a maximum of two per customer.

The news caused quite a stir among fans who expressed their enthusiasm widely across social media platforms.

One woman remarked, “It has been tried and proven excellent,” while another enthusiastically added, “I want this in my stomach!!!!”

‘A third person expressed, “I am incredibly thrilled about this; thanks a lot. I’ve been wanting to try their store-bought option for quite some time.”‘

‘Heavenly!! Very yummy indeed,’ someone added.

A Lidl worker said: ‘I had soooo many customers asking me if we have it in. They will be happy when I tell them it should be in from Saturday. They will fly off the shelves’.

The JD Gross bar will be the first store-brand Dubai chocolate to be widely available in UK supermarkets – and the cheapest.

Anticipation around the new bar was built when TikTok user who goes by

, managed to snag a bar of Lidl’s version in Switzerland – and told her followers there’s a chance could soon be available in the UK.

She informed her audience: “Don’t hesitate, head over to Lidl.”

From Stockholm, she also shared Lidl’s version with her followers – and seemed quite pleased with the taste.

Various brands and grocery stores have started rolling out their own versions of Dubai-inspired chocolates to capitalize on this craze.

TikTok
Users would have to be living under a rock indeed not to have seen celebrities and influencers sampling the luxurious pistachio-stuffed chocolate bar, as the hashtag #dubaichocolate has amassed more than 11 billion views on the platform.

The prestigious British luxury store Selfridges has brought out an exclusive confectionery item available in four distinct versions.

There is a
bar made in Dubai by Bateel (£5)
in pistachio and hazelnut flavours, larger bars from Godiva (£25), Vivel (£25), or Laderach’s FrischSchoggi (£10.50).

Discussing the release, Andrew Bird, Selfridges Head of Food, said: ‘
Dubai
Chocolate is the essential dessert item for 2025; it’s selling like hotcakes.

‘It has gained significant traction across various social platforms, which isn’t surprising as our clients have been eager to experience it and understand all the excitement around it. We are excited to hear their thoughts on our latest collection!’

‘I’ve been searching for the Lindt Dubai chocolate bar in the UK for quite some time, but it’s now finally stocked at Sainsbury’s. Hurry up though, as it might sell out soon!’

Another TikTok user called Niky, who goes by

, spotted a Dubai-style chocolate bar in Morrisons.

Niky wrote alongside the caption: ‘Guys, run to Morrisons [for] £5 chocolates’.

Lindt released its ‘Dubai style’ chocolate bar inspired by the viral treat back in December.

Stefan Bruderer, Master Chocolatier at Lindt & Sprüngli said: ‘We’re always tapped into consumer trends.

Once we noticed the huge success of the Dubai chocolate trend on social media, we decided to join in and add our unique spin to it.

Lindt’s Dubai-Style Chocolate can be found at specific outlets throughout the UK, such as Bicester Village, Leeds Trinity, McArthurGlen Cheshire Oaks, and Bluewater in Dartford.

Waitrose
added the popular
Lindt Dubai Style Chocolate
To chosen outlets on Sunday, and it has now turned into the shop’s quickest-selling sweet item.

The supermarket has promised to

restock on March 31

however, the chain advised customers to ‘be quick as once they’re gone, they’re gone’.

They have since announced that shoppers are restricted to two bars per person so all their customers have a chance to purchase the popular bar.

Steve Dresser, CEO of Grocery Insight, posted a photo of new signage in a Waitrose store on LinkedIn.

“No more than two pieces per person, please… as we aim to ensure that everybody can savor our yummy chocolates. Thank you for your comprehension,” the notice stated.

A representative from Waitrose informed The Grocer that the restriction was implemented to manage inventory levels of the $10 chocolate bars.

A representative stated: “Given the immense popularity of this item, our aim is to ensure that a larger number of clients get a chance to experience it.”
