  • A household from Kangoya, Kiambu County found themselves confused upon discovering that their son was languishing in a Dubai prison and required KSh 70 million for his release.

  • The family explained how events led to their son being imprisoned and were conducting prayer sessions hoping for divine intervention to bring him back home.

  • Upon hearing the tale, Kenyans recalled the case of Steve Munyakho, and they made efforts to repatriate him after he was involved in a killing in Saudi Arabia.

Kangoya, Kiambu:

A confused and worried family is urging the government to get involved in their brother James Kariuki’s situation, as he languishes in a Dubai prison and requires KSh 70 million for his release.

He departed on February 5, 2020, in search of better opportunities. At first, he had been employed in Dubai for eight years with no issues.

When he visited again, he stated that individuals had misused his identification to steal millions of dollars, and even though he filed a report, he received no assistance.

Some individuals hired Kariuki at their firm as a manager, and following him embezzling their funds under his name, they now demand repayment, but we lacked both the financial means and an escape route.

What was the response of Kenyans to Kariuki’s narrative?

Moses Opoma:

Life mirrors your actions; whatever you put into it returns to you. The seeds you plant determine your harvest. The gifts you offer will be returned to you. Whatever you observe in others reflects within yourself. Avoid judgment, and you shall avoid being judged. Emit love and extend kindness, for love will flow back to you.

In terms of issues related to immigration and money, it is difficult.

Traveling to any foreign country is never easy, not even in America. It’s also never easy to win a case, let alone when you’re a lawyer. I’m looking at some of the comments and wondering how some people can behave like animals.

Roseline Manyasi Mukoya:

If you lose your ID and do not report it promptly, it could lead to problems, leaving you in a difficult situation.

Saeed Omar

Ughh hi story about an intelligent person who has gone crazy. Especially Dubai where people get arrested without proof. Then why do they send you reports when you’re not even informed? Do you think Dubai is a country of secrets?

KSh 70 million is not much for Mulima. Lower your payment amount.

Tony Andati:

Kikuyu is useless, this one Nduta, why does he have talent?

Steve Munyakho retunes home

Earlier this year, Steve Munyakho, a person who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for killing an individual from Yemen, eventually went back to his homeland.

The relatives of the 51-year-old man were shocked upon hearing the news and immediately took steps to arrange his liberation.

Following intense interactions with the deceased man’s relatives, they requested KSh 150 million as compensation for his death. Dorothy Kweyu, Munyakho’s mother and an experienced journalist, urged Kenyans to assist in raising the funds, and the government also offered support.
