The Niger Delta Development Initiative has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for naming seasoned oil industry professional and esteemed leader in the petroleum sector, Austin Avuru, as a non-executive director at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), where he will represent the south-south region.

The organization, led by its convener Iteveh Nurudeen Ekpokpobe, issued a statement expressing their appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing the individual from Isoko, Avuru, to serve on the board of NNPCL.

“As a member of the Isoko community, I appreciate the president for taking this into account regarding the Isoko people,” Iteveh stated.

He added: “We anticipate that this new administration will aid in reducing the marginalization faced by the Isoko people and the broader Niger Delta region. The selection of Austin Avuru, a distinguished individual within the oil and gas industry known for his vast expertise, highlights President Tinubuโ€™s dedication to forming a cabinet composed of experienced specialists.”

The organization likewise expressed backing for Bashir Ojulari, the newly appointed GCEO of NNPCL, stating, “With Ojulari’s designation as the new GCEO, he is anticipated to leverage his profound expertise to guide and steer NNPC towards unprecedented success, positioning it to robustly contend on a global scale within the oil and gas industry.”

We think these modifications are expected to offer NNPC a new viewpoint and help in progressing the country’s energy objectives.
