New Delhi [India], March 29 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that the pact inked between the Indian government and the Japanese government for the ‘Assam State Aquaculture Promotion and Livelihood Improvement Project’ will enhance fish farming, increase revenue for farmers, and stimulate local economic development.

In an effort to enhance the fishing industry within the state, the Government of India along with the Government of Japan inked a ยฅ3.580 billion deal yesterday for the ‘Assam State Aquaculture Promotion and Livelihood Enhancement Project.’ According to Chief Minister Biswaโ€™s posting on the social media site X, this pact aims to promote fish farming, increase earnings for local farmers, and stimulate economic development at the community level.

Yesterday, the Governments of India and Japan inked loan pacts totaling JPY 191.736 billion for six initiatives funded through Japanโ€™s Official Development Assistance (ODA) program aimed at supporting projects in India related to forestry, water provision, city transportation, fish farming, wildlife preservation, and business stimulation. This information was disclosed by the Ministry of Finance in an official announcement made one day prior.

Six loan pacts were signed between the Indian government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in New Delhi.

The TNIPP-III initiative seeks to create high-quality employment opportunities for young individuals by encouraging greater investment inflows into the state, encompassing both domestic and international capital, in a way that is equitable and environmentally responsible. It also focuses on fostering new industries and equipping citizens with cutting-edge production techniques. Meanwhile, the Chennai Desalination Plant project intends to deliver clean and consistent water access through the development of a facility designed to convert seawater into potable water along with associated infrastructure. This endeavor aims at enhancing the daily lives of inhabitants across all economic strata within the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), alongside boosting local business prospects.

The Initiative for Enhancing Capabilities in Efficient Forest Management seeks to boost the skills of forestry staff in executing forest regulations via research and development activities, launching trial programs, refining educational frameworks, and reinforcing institutions focused on forest and biodiversity preservation along with climate change issues, as outlined by the Ministry.

Building upon the support provided by JICA, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation aims to expand the extensive public transit network. This expansion will not only stimulate local economies but also contribute to combating climate change by alleviating traffic jams and reducing vehicle emissions over time.

In Assam, the aquaculture promotion initiative aims to boost fish farming output and enhance the quality of life for rural communities involved in fishing activities. This will be achieved through fostering aquaculture development, bolstering the fisheries value chain, and reinforcing the capabilities of the fisheries department.

The biodiversity initiative in Punjab aims to boost ecosystem services and counteract the effects of climate change by increasing tree coverage beyond forests, conserving biodiversity, managing wetlands holistically, improving livelihoods, and reinforcing institutions, the announcement noted.

India and Japan have maintained a longstanding and productive relationship in terms of bilateral development cooperation since 1958. Economic collaboration, which forms a crucial part of their partnership, has seen steady advancement over recent years. This progress reinforces and deepens the strategic global alliance between India and Japan. (ANI)
