A fresh vehicle operating system along with an advanced infotainment system is slated for development over the coming years.

  • The Hyundai Motor Group has introduced a new software brand called “Pleos.”
  • It will create a novel vehicle operating system.
  • A cutting-edge entertainment system is also set to be developed.

New Hyundai cars such as the
2025 Ioniq 5
has already transitioned to a new infotainment system that operates more quickly and provides additional features compared to the previous one. However, this was only the start, as Hyundai continues to make advancements.
big plans
On the software front for its upcoming vehicles.

The Hyundai Motor Group is so committed to this idea that they have launched an entirely new brand named “Pleos.” This brand will focus on creating various innovations, such as their own specialized vehicle operating system and advanced next-gen entertainment systems designed specifically for passengers.

This shift comes as the South Korean automaker aims to evolve from a conventional automobile producer into a leading mobility technology firm. The release was filled with technical jargon such as “Software-Defined Vehicle” (SDV), “application ecosystems,” and references to cloud services. While these terms may not resonate with everyday buyers, they hint at exciting developments anticipated in upcoming Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles through their new division called Pleos.

  • This Could Be Hyundai’s Stealth Weapon in the Electric Vehicle Battle
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 buyers can now receive complimentary home chargers.

Regarding passenger vehicles, Pleos will take charge of creating a new infotainment system named Pleos Connect. Built upon the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), this upcoming system is expected to replace the present ccNC system currently featured in the cars.

Hyundai stated that the updated interface would resemble a smartphone, complete with additional capabilities such as split-screen and multi-window functionalities. As expected, artificial intelligence will play a role through “Gleo AI,” a voice command feature enabling drivers to manage various aspects of their vehicle operations.

Applications will also be supported, which means owners can utilize some of their beloved smartphone applications directly within the vehicle. This feature isnโ€™t groundbreaking since other vehicles equipped with AAOS, such as the
Polestar 2
It can already perform this task, but it represents an enhancement over what Hyundai offers presently. Imagine Google Maps navigation coupled with intelligent EV charging station route planning.

The firm announced that the upcoming Pleos Connect infotainment system will launch in the second quarter of next year, aiming to see approximately 20 million vehicles equipped with this technology by 2030.

Pleos will lead the development of Hyundaiโ€™s specialized vehicle operating system. This refers to the software responsible for ensuring all aspects of the car work correctly, which is distinct from the interface used simply to input destinations into the navigational system. Comparable to

The upcoming vehicle operating system from Hyundai will employ area-specific control units paired with a high-performance vehicular computer. This setup aims to streamline production processes and possibly reduce costs.

One of the reasons behind Pleos developing a vehicle OS from the ground up is to easily integrate fleet management bits into it. That โ€œSDVโ€ buzzword I mentioned earlier stands for Software-Defined Vehicle, and in simple terms, it means the software of the car is more important than its spec sheet. That may not be exciting for the average driver who just wants to commute to work, but itโ€™s pretty important for companies who want to keep a close eye on what their fleets are doing.

Thanks to the integrated vehicle tracking software within the cars, clients can effortlessly and cost-effectively monitor their drivers without requiring additional dongles or separate software. Pleo will manage all the necessary cloud infrastructure for seamless communication between the vehicles and customers’ computers.

In addition to everything mentioned above, Hyundai announced the launch of its Pleos Playground program, which welcomes independent mobile application developers. These developers will gain access to vehicles, cloud services, analytics tools, accessories, an extensive Software Development Kit (SDK), design guidelines, and example code snippets to create innovative applications and incorporate distinctive features. This move holds significant potential, and should it prove successful, it may become a notable achievement for Hyundai.

The development of third-party physical accessories is also much easier for Pleos-based vehicles because external hardware can simply be plugged into the vehicle without extra settings, Hyundai Motor Group said.
