Government Pledges Rs1 Million to Families of Tinkune Protest Victims

Kathmandu, April 2 — The administration has opted to offer monetary aid amounting to NPR 1 million per family to the relatives of the two individuals who tragically died during the pro-monarchy demonstration held in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has allocated Rs1 million to assist the families of journalist Suresh Rajak and 29-year-old Sabin Maharjan, who were killed during the unrest on Friday, according to a statement from the home minister’s office.

Rajak, a videographer for Avenues Television, passed away within a structure that caught fire amidst the demonstration at Tinkune. The autopsy report indicated that Rajak succumbed to burn injuries.

Maharajan, who lived in Kirtipur-4, passed away due to shots fired by the police. He worked as a driver.

Monarchist organizations arranged the demonstration, calling for the restoration of the Hindu monarchy, which was eliminated by the Constituent Assembly in 2008 as part of thePeople’s Movement.
