The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has strongly denounced the recent assaults on Ruwi, Manguna, Daffo, Josho, and Hurti communities within the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. He characterized these acts as pointless and detrimental to the cohesion and security of the area.

The assaults allegedly resulted in multiple fatalities and left numerous people wounded, largely consisting of women and children.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya released a statement from Gombe, conveying his profound grief regarding the unfortunate events. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the government and populace of Plateau State.

He mourned the wave of violence affecting rural areas in the North, especially the continuous loss of innocent lives, describing it as a blemish on the moral fabric of both the region and the country.

“The sacredness of human life should never be overlooked. These atrocious assaults on innocent individuals are entirely unacceptable and ought to be denounced by everyone,” stated Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

The chairman of NSGF praised Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State for his prompt reaction and forward-thinking actions in addressing the consequences of the assaults. He also acknowledged the security organizations for their quick deployment to reinstate peace.

Nevertheless, he encouraged security personnel to step up their efforts in locating the individuals responsible and ensuring they face legal consequences.

Inuwa Yahaya likewise highlighted the importance of fostering tolerance, engaging in peacebuilding efforts, and promoting mutual understanding amongst various groups, especially between farmers and herders.

He emphasized the pledge made by the Northern Governors to collaborate jointly in tackling security issues, enhancing social unity, and encouraging peaceful living throughout the area.

“As governors from the northern region, we will keep taking decisive actions to break this pattern of violence through enhanced security cooperation, fostering discussions, and enacting measures that promote tranquility and cohesion,” he stated additionally.

He appealed to community leaders, religious groups, and civil society organizations to back governmental initiatives by promoting messages of peace, tolerance, and forgiveness.

The Governor additionally stressed that no significant progress can be achieved in an environment marked by violence and fear.
